iRiver X20 MP3 Player
Review created: 02/09/08(updated 02/14/08)

Intuitive, veresatile player (my version is the 8Gb player). I have a large collection of WMA files, so the Apple players were non-starters. Even without that, I would have chosen this because it has a removeable, replaceable Li-ion battery - a vast convenience when compared with the Apple approach.
Pros:
Clear 320x240 movies, which you can create with the supplied converter software.
Picture viewer with zoom-in.
Radio with presets.
Voice recorder.
Additional storage with a micro-SD card.
A browser view to go along with playlists, etc. Nicely designed click and turn control wheel.
Clear loud configurable sound through headphones, with the option to play through speaker (though not at boom-box volume!)
Good playtime per charge (charges when connected to computer with a standard mini-USB - no proprietary plug or separate charger to misplace)!
That replaceable battery.
iRiver quality - I have other iRiver products, with no problems whatsoever.
Cons:
Comes without case or armband.
No gasket on USB port - better keep this one away from water and sweat!
Hints:
If you use a micro-SD card, be aware that adding many small files on one will produce a long wait while the device "rebuilds" its library. Better reserve the add-on storage for a few large videos.
Check on eBay for belt and pocket cases, or check your local electronics store for armband cases that will fit the X20.
A battery for an Insignia player will also fit the X20.
Verdict:
Reasonably priced quality flash player. If you can get it into a protective case, the rating goes to Excellent.
