  Iriver h10 6gb AND 20gb version

First off it's way better than an ipod if you don't need a million gigs for a couple hundred songs. Second it's got all the features of an ipod already built-in. The sound quality is way better than the ipod but I think creative zen and iaudio have the best quality. overall good mp3 player, buttons on the side are extremely handy in running opposed to the ipods clickwheel. This hard drive player is good and well designed and doesn't skip all to often (once in a while is fine) and I have had no problems turning it on after its been in the sun for a couple hours (screen takes a while to warm up it starts up black in the sun) I have a 20gb and a 6gb iriver h10 and I find them more handy than all the other mp3 players I have owned. The new 30gb Sony Go Gear with the touch pad looks like a serious ipod killer if that's what you are looking for. All in all great mp3 player and for around 100$ on ebay it's probably the best bang for your buck. Accessories included: Carrying case. Other accessories include: H10 6gb Dock (30$ iriveramerica.com)

UPDATE...
I have now owned my iriver h10's for over a year and the cheap 6gb was a great Christmas present to my girlfriend. She LOVES it and tells me its sings her to sleep every night.
I read some other reviews that said it was hard to upload music and thats not true. If you get all the drivers and update your H10 you should have no problem. I put 1,521 files onto my H10 20gb in about 3 minutes from a 2ghz laptop. All were highest quality audio files. So it is VERY fast if you ask me.
On the downside I use my H10 in the car and it has never given me any issues and the sun has never been a problem and it has never overheated and it stays in my car 24/7. Occasionally it will lock up this is rare but is usually from a bad audio file just take a paper clip and poke the reset button. I also power it from a usb car adapter whenever the battery dies and when it is on usb the lcd light stays on and this annoys me while driving at night.
Anyways this is the best mp3 player I have ever owned. My sister uses it to record lectures and it works great. Most other players have a lot of internal noise the recorder in the H10 is the highest quality recorder I have ever used in a player. Makes a great cheap gift and the battery life is really great 1 hour charge is about 6 hours play time. Works well at the gym I have NEVER had it skip, shutdown, or ever had a problem while jogging working out anything and I practically live at the gym since I Lifeguard for one.
This will probably be my last update so I hope it is helpful to anyone considering this product.
P.s: check out iriveramerica.com for details, drivers, assecories, and the latest firmware updates.

Back in January I purchased the IRiver H10 5 Gig Hard Driver player travel with to the Philippines. Man what a MP3 Player it puts out a high quality sound packed with lots of personal preferences for settings. You can up load JPEG files to the hard drive and view them while listening to you personal MP3 that you have filled the drive with. The only regret I have is that I wish I could have been able to afford the H10 20 Gig Hard Drive Model to load with a staggering amount of JPEGs and MP3 files. I can tell you the battery life is very good it lasts about 12 hours which was long enough to help me sleep with a set of the Sony soft ear buds that comes with 3 different sizes to choose from. This helped block out the engine noise and allowed me to lower the volume down to give me a high quality sound to enjoy my MP3s and get some rest with the long air flight to the Philippines I would highly recommend the IRiver to anyone but go the extra for the big hard drive. A big player in a small package my hats of to IRiver.

I bought this player remanufacturered and ended up having to return it to the manufacturer for a replacement (which was a breeze, by the way).

On the second try, it worked fine in the beginning but gradually started to give me problems. I bought it for use with Rhapsody to go and noticed that when I would delete tracks, they wouldn't always free up the right amount of memory. So over time the player would fill up even though I never kept more than a few hours of songs on it at a time.

Then things got really inconvenient. I'd format the player (the only way to free up all 5gb) then load a bunch of songs up for a road trip. An hour into the road trip all the licenses would suddenly expire on all the songs, leaving me to listen to whatever was on the radio for the entire rest of the trip and back. No fun.

Soon this started happening all the time. All the licenses would suddenly expire, or the songs wouldn't even make it onto the player without returning an error. I eventually gave up and now own the Sansa Rhapsody player which was only ~$130 and is supposed to work seamlessly with rhapsody.

  Awesome player for the price!

Love this MP3 player! It's much larger than other versions for the same price. Plus the color screen, picture and video features are an added bonus. It works from Windows Media Player and will play windows files or mp3's...So no additional software was needed for me to use it right away! The only thing I don't like is that it is very sensitive on the touch bar but I rarely need to use the mouse because I have my playlist's set up perfectly and use the buttons to start them. I mostly use the mouse bar for volume control.
I wanted a player that would plug-in to the MP3 jack in my new car and I was tired of never having the music discs with me that I wanted to hear. I would leave them at work, home, or in the car so my collection was scattered all over. Now it is always with me and fits right in my pocket or laptop bag!

The iRiver H10 6gb hard drive mp3 player is a good buy because it has most of the same features of its physically larger counterpart. it has a built in fm tuner, and tuner and voice recording, using the built in mic. you can save your own presets, and review your recording when your done. it also has a long battery life in its small removable battery. you buy an extra one, and keep it charged you double your music time. what i dont like about it is that the pictures dont show as clear due to its small screen size. other than that its pretty good. another plus, is it can serve as a hard drive, for any type of files you wish to copy onto it, but they cannot be run directly from the hard drive. also note that when you use it as a hard drive, if you place a file, thats about more than 700 mb or a gig, you casnt copy it back onto the computer. well hope you make the right choice when buying a small mp3 player.
~~~peace and love
  iRiver H10 difficult to use
Review created: 08/07/06
1 of 4 people found this review helpful.
The refurbished unit was faulty and the seller didn't respond to my emails, so I returned it to iRiver; they sent a replacement that works fine.
I have found it extremely difficult to load or create Playlists, and navigation between the songs I want to hear is extremely clumsy. I also have a 512mb iRiver that is easy to use, unlike this unit.
All in all it is harder to use than my Sony HD-1.
  iRiver H-10 MP3 Player
Review created: 05/04/09
When it comes to MP3 players, I have bought a ton of them. I am a music lover and have it playing in the background all the time. My reason for wanting an MP3 player was to take my music with me. Most of the players I have owned in the past have some quirk implanted by a music subscription company that made it obsolete for me. I still carry a grudge against URGE/Rhapsody for messing up one of my players. After they implant their bug in the machine, it would play only one or two songs and then stop, with the message that I needed to recharge/update my subscription. Some others will play all of your songs by one artist at one time no matter how spaced out you place them..
....But the iRiver H-10 does do that!! I create my own playlist from my Windows Media Player and I like the fact the H-10 plays my playlists exactly as I have them formatted. My Media Player has over two thousand songs on it and I like the dependability of it rather than a subscription companys. It takes a little effort to transfer songs from cassette, CD, or record to the computer, but in the end it is well worth it. The iRiver H-10 may not be at the top of everyone's shopping list, but it is on mine. The player is well made and easy to use. The quality of sound is equal to any other digital player that I have heard. It's a good player!!
Well, the seller is one of the best, even though he replaced the first MP3 player which was not working with two other, unfortunately both of them didnt work either.
So when I emailed him about it he refunded the money.
Great seller and great customer service, definitely do business with him again in the future.
  iRiver great mp3!!!!!!!!!!!
Review created: 05/22/08
I researched mp3 players for quite some time before I decided to purchase the iRiver. These are great!!! I previously bought two iRiver h10 20gb for our children,they are a little on the big side, but they sound really good and they work great, no problems. I bought the 5gb for myself because I figured it would hold plenty of music for me. Its size is smaller, more compact. In my opinion they make way too big of a deal out of ipods. Check all reviews before you make your purchase, its worth the time and effort.
I don't have much to compare this MP3 to. So far I have only downloaded music and pictures to it. I have yet to try videos. As I am somewhat electronically challenged, it was nice that this was so easy to use.
  Great Product for the Techno Novice
Review created: 06/03/07
I bought the iRiver H10 (6GB) player because I wanted more storage space than a Nano, but didn't want to pay a hefty price for it. I'm not a technologically savvy person, so I didn't want to lay out alot of money for a machine I either had to get someone else to load for me or would end up putting back on eBay because it was too complicated. A couple of "ripping and burning" lessons from my younger friends cleared up that mystery for me, but it did take me a few days to get used to the side buttons on the H10. Initially, the protective skin was either getting in the way of turning the device on/off, or wasn't protecting it enough to keep me from forwarding to the next song by accident. I've become accustomed to it now, but I still have to be mindful of locking/unlocking. My battery life is not great, but I don't know how old my device was before I bought it. Three hours continuous music before charging would be my outside guess; I usually only listen for a half hour at a time. All in all, I am very pleased with this device. It can hold music, text, photos (the screen is almost too small for detailed viewing), voice recording, and has fm radio capability (though I haven't had too much luck picking up my favorite station, which transmits from a neighboring state.)It can also record from the radio; the quality is low, but adequate if you just need to remember a chorus or share a riff with someone. It is an ideal starter device for young teenagers, and could even inspire a older novice like myself to start looking into the larger capacity mp3 and video players.
Not the best when it comes to importing music/playlists onto your mp3 player. The chemistry that iPod has with iTunes is far better than the chemistry between iRiver and WMP. But the price was much more reasonable for me. I would recommend it.
This is pre-Ipod technology. It is an excellent player that has FM radio. The downside of the player is the difficulty in loading music. You have to use Windows Media Player. I have a huge file of music on my computer. It takes me lots of time to import music and create playlists. There should be an easier way to do so. After you get the music loaded, it is rather simple to use. The battery lasts as long as your ears can stand the injection of music on your eardrums! Great product, just needs an easier way to load music.
