The book was awesome. It was in perfect/brand new condition. Shipping however, took quite some time. I had to wait about 2 weeks to receive it. Overall though, I was satisfied.
Bill Phillips had been publishing body-building magazines and marketing nutritional supplements for years when he had a weird revelation at a trade show: many of the most loyal and enthusiastic readers he had were totally out of shape. From that uncomfortable realisation came his popular Physique Transformation Contest (top prize that first year: Phillips's own Lamborghini), now world famous, and this book. The three-times-a-week weightlifting program in Body for Life is deceptively simple. If you have spent any time in the gym, you have already done all the exercises. But Phillips includes a couple of high-intensity sets at the end of each exercise that should compound the training effect on each muscle group. Same goes for the cardiovascular exercise he recommends: just 20 minutes, three times a week. But those 20 minutes are spent jacking the intensity up and down, accomplishing more in less time.
Phillips arranges all this into a 12-week programme, along with nutritional and motivational tips. Be warned that the nutritional advice gets a little spacey. For example, he puts "carbohydrates" and "vegetables" into separate categories, and recommends three daily doses of a nutritional supplement called Myoplex, which his company manufactures. (Fortunately, he gives tips on how to make each dose taste different, such as by adding drops of peppermint extract.) Despite this strangeness, Body for Life still motivates because so many others have achieved astounding results in similar 12-week windows, and the pictures and testimonials are here as evidence. amazon.com
Great book. I started following the plan on Sept. 3rd. I have lost 6 lb.s and gaining muscle. I'm working out with weights and am already seeing great results. I can't wait till my 12 weeks is up so I see just how great I did..
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was recommended to me by my brother-in-law, who had followed this plan with great results. It wasn't unrealistic like many of the other diet/lifestyle books are. If you are looking to change your life, through diet and exercise, than this is a book for you.
motivating, clear, practical, doable lessons on how to get where you want your body to be in order to fully live. I'm just embarking on the journey so I can't comment on the results of the program, but I know it's a lot simpler than any other program I've ead about, especially those Biggest Loser programs on TV.
The book is incredible. On the contratry to the review written stating that this book is only for begginers, its not. Yes, Phillips does an awesome job of breaking everything down into dummies format. Making this one a perfect buy for begginers. But it goes over a full body workout that cuts more "elite bodybuilders" work outs in half, and the muscle keeps on coming. Sure somebody thats been Truly bodybuilding for years doesn't need to know that proper nutrition is 90% of working out. But so many myths have flooded the gym that even the best of us have been effected. Phillips book goes over these myths and debunks them for what they are. I had been body building for 7+ years before reading his book, and was real happy with my build. This is my 4th year using his methods and let me tell you, I NEVER thought I would be able to look like I do today unless I was using steroids or something. Thanks Bill, you're the man!
Oh and FYI, the methods used in the "Body for Life" book are the same methods Bill Phillips uses himself to look like he does.
I love this book and have read it twice. It tells you the true way to lose weight and gave me faith in myself. It also has put an end to my diet pill use as all that was doing was killing my heart anyways. This book is very easy to understand and it tells you the foods that your body needs to consume everyday while working out and the great thing is, they are things we buy everyday. Just more simple. I decided to bu this book because I was watching Montel Williams Show one day.......lol, and there was a woman on there that used to be my size which is in the morbidly obese catagory. And she was so amazing and she transformed herself into a strong healthy fit woman by being inspired by this book. Well her blessing got passed on tho me. And this book has continued to inspire me. I ask myself all the days that I want to give up if I would really be happy with that choice and I already know the answer, "NO!" So far so good for me and I recommend this book to everyone that feels hopeless and can't take the life that they are living anymore due to some kind of unhappiness of their weight, lack of energy, and health.
This is an excellent guide for exercise and eating right. I have not bought any of the supplements recommended but even so I have lost fat pounds and trimmed down. I've just finished my first month and I have lost 5 of the 20 pounds I'm looking to lose. Yes, it's a slow loss, but the muscle and curves I've gained in the process are well worth the 'slow.' I have bad days but I love how the book encourages you to look past them and not let them get you down.I am a human, after all, and it's inevitable that I will not follow the program perfectly. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to feel better about themselves and increase their metabolism. I can literally feel my metabolism burning the food I eat. That is an incredible feeling! If you're looking for a common sense approach to getting in shape and feeling better, Body for Life is certainly a great option.
I had this book before, and loaned it out and never had it returned. It was a good deal on ebay. I actually have done the body for life and IT WORKS!!! I love this book and I look back thru it sometimes as a reminder!!
I'd highly recommend this book for anyone who wants an ABC roadmap to getting fit. I read it twice the first week I got it, joined a gym and started eating clean, that was Feb 1. Today is March 10 and I am on the way to being in the best shape of my life having already lost several inches around my midsection. My energy level has skyrocketed and my strength has ramped up considerably. I have tried the (optional) supplements and do like them, at the very least you should buy some whey protein powder. With all the competing and often contradictory fitness/diet plans available the Body for Life plan provides common sense direction that will get you healthier, fit, and...better, in only 4 1/2 hours of workouts per week.
This is a great book that my husband had read and loved before. We had lost it and he wanted to make another lifestyle change and wanted to refresh with the book. It is a great way to work out and a healthy way of life. Everyone should read this book at least once!
I love the Book..i own one myself . I bought this copy for my brother... Ebay is a great place to buy and sell. My friends don't call me " Ebay Queen " for nothing ....lol Diana2507
Great book if you follow the plan. My husband and I both did this a few years ago and it really got the weight off and got us in shape. I love the workout plan in it. Effective and quick!
I read this book 6 years ago and lost 100lbs and never looked back. If you want to get determined and dedicated this is the book. Pretty much enough to get you jumpstarted to change your body. DO IT!!
This used book cost just a fraction of the cost of a new book. It was in excellent condition; I couldn't tell if the book was even read. The delivery was speedy and I am now enjoying my book.
I wanted to be able to better myself and bring my self esteem back. I need to have something to keep me accountable of my eating and with this book I feel like I can succeed on that.
