Being a Johnny Depp fan and knowing previous films by Tim Burton, I "forced" myself to see this one. It was terrific, but not for the faint of heart. It took me watching it at home in addition to the theater to finally understand the rapid lyrics. The lyrics are clever, but go so fast they are a bit difficult to hear clearly.
NOW, the blood.........That is a whole subject in itself. Anyone who feels squeamish at the sight of blood may want to avoid this movie.
Saw it in theaters the weekend it came out. Wasn't expecting much but was VERY surprised!! Depp is phenomenal. The movie is pretty gory, but in such a surreal way.
I love Johnny Depp, but this movie was sort of a disappointment for me. I guess part of the reason that I didn't like it was because it was a musical. During some of the singing scenes, I thought the movie seemed to drag on to the point where I pushed the fast-forward button. My husband did not like it either (and he is a Depp fan also). The idea of people eating flesh from other people who were murdered is beyond gruesome and I do not think such things are good for people to watch in movies. The story line was unique, though, and it had some really shocking scenes with interesting visuals and scenery. Johnny Depp's singing voice was surprisingly nice, however, I would not want to watch the movie again.
Sweeney Todd is a great movie. I watch it over and over and never get tired. I never thought I would like a musical so much sense they are not really my type. But this is an exception.
Outstanding movie. Johnny Depp is an awesome actor, it does not matter if he plays a pirate or a barber. The movie was different and very interesting the love story within the horror movie was excellent.
These DVD's were "pirate" or something, definitly not retail versions. One of them I ordered worked fine, the other would not play in any type player.... DVD player, PC, Xbox360, or playstation. decided to buy because the price was really good,in comparison to the same title offered by other sellers, ad the shipping discount was also a big plus in purchasing the second DVD.
I bought this movie for my wife as I am not really one to watch musicals. Because of Johnny Depp I did, and I was suprised. This is a really good story. For me the music was actually really good. I would rate this a 4 out of 5 stars.
I just saw this movie and I absolutely love it. I never saw the play or even knew what the movie was going to be about before I rented it. All I knew was that Johnny Depp was starring in it and that it was a Tim Burton film. Oh, and that it was a musical "rolls eyes skeptically". Wow after giving it a chance, took about 20 minutes, then I was hooked. The singing was great actually everything was perfect. It is one of those movies that you want to see right after you just saw it. Kinda like the Sixth Sense. I have to admit that I watched it 3 times because the third time I watched it with the captions on. Each time I watched the movie it made more sense and seemed to get better. I do wish I had that smart sound feature on my tv because when they speak it is low but then the music gets very loud. Borat's part was awesome! The little boy "Toby" sang beautifully. Overall it is a great film, not scary and the gore isn't too bad looks like the old time horror movies. Plus they sort of warn you when to look away so there are no surprises. If you are squeamish about roaches they are only in the beginning when you are introduced to Mrs. Lovett, just thought that would have been nice to know ahead of time because it is my biggest phobia.
if you like Tim Burton movies that feature Johnny Depp, you will like this one. I enjoyed the music and the good way the movie moved along. It wasn't slow or fast paced; it moved the story along at just the right pace. It is a sweet movie.
The dark, morbid duo, (Depp/Burton) do it again with an excellent rendition of musical to movie. Burton keeping it close to it's roots, and Depp a surprisingly good Sweeney Todd, considering he's never sung before. Too bad there were not that many extra's, it would have been great to see the auditions of the actors/actress for the part. Definitely recommend for those that were fans of the musical or Depp's/Burton's work.
I saw it on Broadway many years ago. The film was very bloody however Depp's job of acting was great. How wonderful to add singing to his credit. It's a shame he didn't star in "Beyond the Sea" .
If you like Johnny Depp then you won't be disappointed. He is good in everything he does. This is kind of like Edward Scissorhands with a little more gore. I bought this for my 16 year old and he watches it just about everyday.
The musical ingeneral was fantastic. I only had severral complaints about it. first, It seemed like everything was TOO close to the camara, Maybe its just me but I felt like It needed to set back further. and Second, The music for some of the songs was too loud for the people singing. In, "The worst pies in London," Mrs.E could barely be heard in some sections while in others she took the stage. Other than that, The cast gave a fantastic performance overall. 2 thumbs up.
I found the storyline to flow well, as well as Johnny Depp's vocals to be wonderful. Helena Bonham Carter is a perfect choice for Ms. Lovett. Suprises are found throughout entire film to the very end.. a thriller, a classic movie to have in your collection...Johnny Depp is very underrated and is a natural as Todd. I loved it. Sara Zeppelin
If you like movies that are a little out there, out of the ordinary, than i suggest you see this flick! Great Actors/Actresses - Great Director! See the movie and you can even see why I love it so much!
I was so excited when I heard Tim Burton was directing this movie I saw it in the theater twice. It is a great movie, buy it. The singing is o.k. so I bought the music from the Broadway Revival, which is good, and I get all the music Tim Burton didn't put in the movie.
