The Cohen Bros did it again, I liked the movie so much I bought the book. This a great film and it deserved all the awards plus many more. Tommy Lee is great as is Josh, and Bartman, this film was made for him.
I love it when black history is told. Makes me feel a part of what it took to make this great nation of ours. For years I have learned about White America knowing all along we (blacks) played a very important part. Good as well as bad because human nature has no color--there is good and bad in all of mankind I love Mr D Washington in anything he plays in. He proved his stardom to me when I saw him play the badguy in "Training Day" So when I heard about a man getting pure cocaine from asia w/o a middle man, and then he is black, I am paying attention. I did also like the idea of justice prevailing and a good man fighting to see justice served. The price on ebay was also very good. I don't understant why the postage is so expensive. I have had to send a few things back and I send it priority and it's still not what I have to pay for S/H thru ebay, so that is the only down side as far as I'm concerned.
I love anything by the Cohen Brothers. They're so twisted. This movie was so different from their usual films. The main character was so scarey. Worth seeing.
If you haven't seen this Movie then you need to take twenty bucks out of your wallet and wipe your ass with it. You'll get a better value for your money and you will not have allowed those fat gastropods, the Coen brothers to have stolen two hours of your life to watch this abortion of a Film. I should have known better when it one those Oscars that it meant that this movie could not be ant worse if it came out of the Coen's fat asses. This is a must not see for you and anyone you can do a big favor by telling them they are better off getting gonorrhea than watching this pointless trash. I stand by the fact that getting an STD is not as bad as watching this movie. I think it likely that this movie gives your brain STD's that are far more harmful than a case of crabs could ever be. I mean by thr end I was gnashing my teeth, grinding my jaw, and rending my garments in an effort to keep from gouging my own eyes out of my head if thats what it would take to make it stop, just make it end so you can stop vomiting up your insides as your whole body rejects this experience. The medical fact that this movie has caused a 600% increase in spontaneous bowel movements in theaters across the country puzzle the experts. Doctors have never seen anything like this it known medical history, a movie could cause such explosive diarrhea the viewer ejected their Colons in a few extreme cases while some people actually had thier ass explode into pieces. I guess based on the current findings over 40% of the movies viewers suffered a major event involving feces escaping from every conceivable place they could. I was lucky that I got away from that movie with my sanity in tact and my butt not in twenty pieces. Bad stuff what took place all over the world. I can't imagine going through such an awful experience but the doctors all sat that the people who suffered from the oral diarrhea got of the easiest. Every day people somewhere see something at the theater that leaves a shitty taste in thier mouths so I can empathize with the people whose were hanging down by thier feet was awful as bad as having to watch the film again. I never want to think about such awful crap but to please for your own sake do not allow someone to trick you into going. those various reports of the NeoEuro-trash with one of those helmet hair styles that cover his ears like a big hair plate that wraps over the ears and bangs. This gives you the sloppy bowl cut got out of hand so fast that yhey took over your face to hide your ears at first until they actual grew over suddenly, the way the Goofy like were flopping around like a couple on one of those Disney caps. He must have pinned them down just so to keep up with the "penis head hair dews" helmet. She snickered at the image popping around the tops shoulders made him look back, when suddenly the guy stops dead in his tracks and turned out to be William Shattner, who wondered if maybe you might enjoy the movie more if you had named your own price?,suddenly you see Bob Barker of The Price is Right holding a bag filled with dog testicles, "have yout pet spade or neutered" Bob says popping a mouthful of dog nuts in and chewing. Chuck Norris walks over then and says "I told him not to help control the pet population but just to love me for the woman he married" the tears streaming down his face he says "He just used me for free mustache rides" THE END If the story is good to you, you'll love the Movie if not you'll hate it. FIN
I bought this DVD because of the great movie reviews and the awards it received. It was much cheaper to buy a used DVD than to take my wife to the movies to see it. I can make popcorn at home...
Lots of idle chit-chat, some crazy evil guy appearing in flashbacks or flashforwards, I'm not sure. Maybe related to the story, but I couldn't figure out what the story was! Only watched half-way through because it was putting me to sleep! Sorry, I love a good movie but this was awful!
THIS MOVIE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TITLED "CALL IT".JAVIER BARDEM'S PSYCHOTIC/HOMICIDAL CHARACTER IS WORTH THE VIEWING,LITERALLY.JOSH BROLIN IS THE "COWBOY"WHO FINDS THE END RESULT OF A SHOOTOUT BETWEEN DRUG DEALERS AND BUYERS.BROLIN GRABS THE SUITCASE OF CASH AND THUS THE TALE TAKES YOU THROUGH SOME WILD SCENARIOS.THE COEN BROUGHT YOU "FARGO","RAISING ARIZONA","O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU","BLOOD SIMPLE" ETC.NOW OFFER YOU "NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN".ALSO WITH TOMMY LEE JONES,ONE OF THE OLD MEN.FIRST TIME I CHECKED THIS MOVIE OUT I WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THE FILMS CONCLUSION.THE SECOND VIEWING OF "NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN",I REALIZED MORE AND IT'S A GOOD FILM.I GIVE THIS FILM 3&HALF STARS.***/HALF. jendrey123 PEACE.
I thought the movie "Fargo" would go down in cinematic history as the "best" film that the Coen Brothers ever did. I was wrong. Unless they can somehow top this one, this is it. Set in 1980 it's the story of a small town Texas Sheriff, played perfectly by Tommy Lee Jones, name of Ed Tom Bell, who finally comes across crimes that were "beyond measure". Time has past by the easy-going Sheriff when he encounters a crime started by a drug deal gone bad. A mysterious man called Anton Chigurh (best supporting actor Javier Bardem) was shown up wrecking havoc as he tries to recover $2 million in cash. A man by the name of Llewelyn Moss, played by the perfectly cast Josh Brolin, has stumbled onto the cash and is now on the lam with both Chigurh and Bell on his trail. A great supporting performance also comes from Kelli McDonald, whom you'd swear was a born and bred Texas girl, is actually from Glasgow, Scotland. A variety of supporting players round out the cast. Not a bad performance in the lot, the unspoken other lead is the setting itself. The Coens have outdone themselves with their attention to detail and storytelling, based on the book by Cormac McCarthy. To tell you any more would spoil it, so buy your copy today, at eBay. 10/10
I was very pleased with the condition of the used DVD received. It was also inexpensive . The seller has a 100% positive rating something which I always consider when I do my purchases. Thanks.
When I read Cormac McCarthy's novel, it read like a potential movie-script. I was not disappointed when I saw it the first time in the theatre. Grusome, dark and explosive. I had read several others by McCarthy and always enjoyed his theatrical approach to his characters and stories. The Coen brothers were exactly right for the project. I was first exposed to their work in "Fargo". Some movies suffer when shown on the smaller TV screen. Not this one. And it deserved to win the oscars that it was awarded. I am pleased to have the DVD in my collection.
I found the movie very choppy. There was no suspense . No resolution to the end of the movie. I seriously hope this wasnt planned as an opening to a follow up movie. I bought this at a discount price. I would have been extremely unhappy paying full price for this dvd. Rent it to see, dont buy it!
Bought this as a gift for someone.*******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
What a great, crazy movie! It is a 'must see, must own'. I have a great vhs collection, and about 100 dvd's, and I will be adding this to the pile to watch again and again.
Clearly I'm not a movie critic, because I just don't see what all the hoopla is about - this movie was not what I expected - certainly not the quality of the other movies by the Coen brothers. With the Academy Awards and all the great publicity, I just kept waiting and waiting for the great movie to develop and before I knew it, it was over and left me very disatisfied. The quality of star actor names is all that carried the movie. It had a great story and plot, but just never seemed to develop. Did Bartram win an Oscar for this role? If so, what the h*ll for? Actually, it seemed to me that towards the end, the writers just got bored with themselves and just said - "OK, I'm done! Whew! Glad that's over!"
I guess I just missed it all. Just wasn't that good of a movie and is certainly not going on my list of all time hits - I bought the DVD one day, watched it that night, and sold it on eBay the next day. Good riddance.
the buyer charged me 15USD for the shipping, ontehe envelope it was 3.60 USD, the DVD arrived after 10 days i sent her a mail asking her ,why i paid 15 USD no answer!
No Country for Old Men came out to incredible reviews and for once, lived up to them. Bardem's psychotic killer is simply too good to pass up, it's no wonder he won an Oscar for playing such a part. Just a tip, a co-worker actually had a nightmare about his character after watching this movie. His character would be at home in any horror movie, he's that creepy. Many people miss the point of the movie and that fact somewhat gives the movie an enigma surrounding it. It's so easy to see what is happening with the Tommy Lee Jones character and almost no one moves past him to look at the other characters in the movie. When you watch the movie, and I refuse to give up plot twists in a review, you'll notice that almost all the characters in the movie are .... lost. That all the characters in the movie have literally... no place to go. It wouldn't matter how old they got, they'd still be lost. None of the primary characters have any plans for life, either current or for their future. This point isn't taken into account often. I'm certain the book adds much more focus to the title of this movie, but I haven't read it yet. When watching the film you can almost fall in love with the late seventies air surrounding it. Many movie makers truly fail to actually make the film fit into the time period they are made for but the Coen brothers obviously know what they're doing and their talents are not lost in this film. I only wanted to point out things that others may not have, and give my true opinion of this movie. I would recommend this movie to anyone who may have enjoyed Fargo (although this movie doesn't feel as dark as Fargo was) or enjoys watching movies that, in the end, make you simply sit there and think. I highly recommend this true Oscar winner, which might have been so, in almost any year...
Javier Bardem puts together one of the best, if not the best, performance i have ever seen in any movie. flawlessly made, thought provoking, action packed, intense, suspenseful, even some comedy. this movie has it all. anyone who likes movies will love this.
As for the plot, one guy was fortunate enough to find a pack full of money in the middle of a battlefield and take it, but unfortunate enough to realize later that he was messing with the wrong people.
This was a good starter and, until the middle of the movie, things were going pretty interesting and I felt very attached to the history. Blood and shooting everywhere and everytime driven by the Chigurh-Moss chase. A real and enjoyable countryside thriller.
Then, the conclusion: Moss was killed, Chigurh got hit by a car bump and just walks away (apparently not being busted) and the sheriff, once eager for catching the murderer, ended up sitting, reflecting about life and the past. If there's a subtle message in the end of the movie, I don't really know, but I have to confess that this finale has not made much of a sense to me.
Although I found the end confusing, this movie is good in the general sense and rescues the idea that low or middle budget movies can be as interesting and entertaining as pricey ones. I also liked the production: more images and action than dialogue, a lot of suspense and not much music running in the background. Suspense scenes are better when there is no or just a little sound with it.
I think this is the best all around movie i have ever watch. My best friend sure told me right. I'd recommend No Country for Old Men (2008, DVD). I sure think you will enjoy!
