I always question religious type movies as we all have our own religion. This movie is great as it doesn't push any affiliation. This movie does make us think of where we are currently in our personal lives. What is important to us and how can we take charge of what our destination or goal is. The producers hit the sub-conscious and make us stop and think about what is important. We had watched this movie as a family and enjoyed it so much that we ended up purchasing it. I would most definitly recommend watching it at least once.

Evan Almighty-Good Movie for the entire family!

I have to admit a comment in the movie I Loved. God telling Evan's Wife...“If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?”
Morgan Freeman again Plays his "Character" Well.
Evan Baxter says goodbye to the news-anchoring business in favor of his job as a naive freshman congressman. When God orders him to build an ark and prepare for an impending inundation, Evan sheepishly takes on the task (it's hard to turn down the job when your hair and beard grow to Old Testament lengths and God wants you to walk around in sackcloth. Good Movie for the entire family!

My children saw the movie while on vacation in Georgia, so while browsing ebay, I noticed the movie was available and bought it. I had a nice number of people to choose from. The movie is about believing even without seeing. My children watch it often because it is funny and easy to follow along and I like it because I can be in another room busy and know that they are watching a quality well-written movie that doesn't involve guns and swearing and general inappropriate materials.

  DVD - Evan Almighty
Review created: 12/10/07

I loved the movie! It thrills me when I watch a movie that reminds people that God still speaks to people today...sometimes in quite mysterious ways. I bought the movie because I wanted to see it...and have all my family see it...and we couldn't afford to cost to see it in a theater. It has such a great message....and superb acting....that I have shared it with visitors to my home as well as lending it to friends to show to their families.

Wonderful, Funny and Family Friendly!! A Hit!

I can't say enough about this movie. With today's lineup this is a hit. It's funny and safe for the whole family. Although there are certainly some liberties taken with the Noah's Ark message from God's Word the overall theme stayed the same. "Despite the circumstances and other's opinions think it is important to serve and follow God. His ways are higher than our own and he sees what we don't." This movie made us laugh and cry. It was a wonderful mix of truth and humor. I give it a A+

This was a pretty funny movie. Not quite as good as Bruce Almighty - but the sequels seldom are. However, in its own way - it is very cute movie - some very funny parts - and a good movie for the whole family.

A Funny Movie that Makes You Think
Review created: 12/02/07

Noah's Ark may be a story in the Christian Bible, but Evan Almighty makes it both a universal one, and an American one at the same time. The movie makes you laugh from start to finish, but also makes you think from time to time. The recurring theme of A.R.K. (Act of Random Kindness) really means a lot in our society now. It's a movie you will love if you are a Christian, and a movie you would still appreciate and enjoy if you are not.

A fun movie for kids of all ages

Evan (Steve Carell) is an honest politician going to Washington with a burning desire to make a change. Upon arriving he is recruited by the stereotype professional politician played by John Goodman. God (Morgan Freeman) intervenes and commands Evan to build an ark. Evan changes appearance as the ark is being built and looks as if from biblical days. His looks and actions make him the target of ridicule until...well ..I am sure you read the book! It has action..animals..humor and a hero you want to succeed. A fun movie for all ages...even if you do not believe in an honest politician.

  EVAN ALMIGHTY (2007 DVD)
Review created: 10/10/07

THIS MOVIE WAS TOTALLY AWESOME. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT. IT IS A GREAT FAMILY FLICK AND FULL OF LAUGHS AND ALSO HAS SOME IMPORTANT LESSONS THAT WE SHOULD ALL TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION. BE KIND TO OTHERS EVEN IF IT IS ONLY THE SMALLEST OF THINGS. MAN IS KILLING THIS PLANET WITH POLLUTION AND OVER DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION WHILE ANIMALS ARE LOSING THEIR HABITATS AND TONS OF FORESTS ARE BEING DESTROYED. THE MOVIE HAD TONS OF ANIMALS AS WELL WHICH WAS GREAT. GOING BACK TO THE DAYS OF NOAH AND HIS ARK, WHETHER YOU ARE RELIGIOUS OR NOT, YOU WILL LOVE THIS MOVIE. THE DIRECTOR WAS ALSO PLANET CONSCIOUS WITH THE MAKING OF THIS FILM AND THE ARK WAS BROKEN DOWN PIECE BY PIECE AND ALL OF THE WOOD WAS DONATED TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY AS WELL AS A BUNCH OF WINDOWS FROM THE SETS THAT WERE BUILT. THEY ALSO PLANTED THOUSANDS OF TREES IN A FOREST AND HE BOUGHT EVERYONE ON STAFF BIKES SO THEY WOULD NOT WASTE GAS AND USE CARS TO GET AROUND. HOW COOL IS THAT? TOO BAD MORE MOVIE MAKERS WERE AS PLANET CONSCIOUS AS THIS GROUP WAS. ALL AROUND ON A SCALE OF 1 TO 10 WITH 10 BEING THE BEST, I GIVE THIS MOVIE 100! I LOVED IT. I RENTED IT AND WATCHED IT TWICE BEFORE RETURNING IT AND NOW I PLAN TO BUY IT SO I CAN WATCH IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. GOOD JOB TO ALL INVOLVED. IT WAS GREAT :o)

  Al-mighty Movie!
Review created: 10/09/07(updated 10/09/07)

Evan Almighty is without a doubt the funniest movies I have seen this year, and one of the funniest I have seen in a long time.

Steve Carrel's character, Evan, is elected to the US congress. Despite his family nagging that he needs to spend more time with them, he thinks everything is wonderful and sets out to change the world. Only, the very next morning after moving in, his tightly controlled world begins to fall apart.

God wants him to build an ark and he will not take no for an answer.

Steve Carrel was at his best. His achieved a perfect balance between being off the wall without being outright loony, a balance he has unfortunately lost in The Office TV show. In all fairness, his type of humor naturally wants to go out of control and it is difficult to put things in perspective. Ask Jim Carrey.

Morgan Freeman definitely needs to get more comedic roles. He was certainly inspired by George Burns playing God. He keep the good natured spirit George created and is able to come across as a best friend. Morgan is not just a carbon copy of George, however. Mr. Burns took a laid back and "see what happens" approach while Mr. Freeman is assertive and pro-active in his divine will.

Comedy aside, I enjoyed the movie for the deeper themes.

The most obvious theme was that God apparently decided to renig on his promise not to destroy the world with a flood again. This fact was conveniently omitted from the movie. But fundamentalists will sleep well at night to learn that it was not the world that was destroyed by the flood, but something smaller. This was the core of the movie.

God several times tells us that "arc" stands for "acts of random kindness". It's not the earth shattering miracles that make a difference, its the culmination of little things done day to day that will make the world a better place.

I also found it refreshing to see God pictured as an active participant in human life. One who doesn't make you a different person when you pray to him, but one who gives you opportunities to change yourself. Today, we live in a United States where a small atheist minority is actively taking away symbols of hope that the Christians, Jews and Muslims, who together make an overwhelming majority, revere. It hurts me to see democracy perverted in this manner. Industry and businesses are free from these restrictions. I am glad to see at least some filmmakers have chosen to remind us that God is still with us. The success the movie had in theaters also proves that people still believe despite the public censorship of religion.

All in all, an excellent movie to watch that also has life lessons that everyone should take to heart.

Great Performance By Almost All-Star Cast
Review created: 09/26/07(updated 11/20/07)
1 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The movie starts off with Evan Baxter the backstabbing character best known from the prequal Bruce Almighty, Baxter is elected into a congressionary position and spends a lot of time and money on improving his outward appearance in the hopes to personify a welcomed image to the public, this methodical daily routine is soon cut short by an act of God starting with subtle signs and reminders only soon to become life altering changes in both his appearance and mental status. The movie is small laughter all the way through the movie and this can be seen as an improvement over the original movie which offered bigger laughs but in much smaller doses. The situational aspects are the heart of this movie as Baxter's plights worsen. The Plot climax is slightly dissapointing but will not offend the die hard catholics that assuredly watched this movie to assumably boycott it's sacriligous properties. John Goodman is more well known as the cuddly American stereotype but he plays the antagonist quite well. All around this movie is very watchable and its comedic staying power will induce it into classic catagory.

A delightful twist into established biblical scripture
Review created: 09/08/07

5 of 8 people found this review helpful.

With Jim Carrey and Jennifer Aniston both declining to reprise their roles for the sequel to Bruce Almighty. Returning Director Tom Shadyac goes in a different direction by paired up Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin) with Morgan Freeman. (Both Freeman and Carell are reprising their roles from Bruce Almighty).

Evan Almighty put a delightful twist into established biblical scripture. It was also good to see Shadyac remain true to scripture (With God (Freeman) holding true to his promise never to flood the world again) but at the same time, he allows his audience the opportunity to expand their personal views on the concepts of prayer and making a difference in the lives of others.

God (Freeman) mentioned the following:

“If someone prays for patience, you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If he prayed for courage, does God give him courage, or does he give him opportunities to be courageous? If someone prayed for the family to be closer, do you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings, or does he give them opportunities to love each other?”

Lastly, Evan's ARK does play a significant role, other than being the film’s signature vessel. A-R-K is the acronym for a single Act of Random Kindness…which is the first step that one must take in order to make a difference in the lives of others.
