Sony RDR-VX525 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo

I purchased this dual media recorder to integrate into my Sony Audio setup and it worked perfectly as expected. My STR-898 had all the required connections and it manages this devices options very well. Recording or playing in either format is very simple and thus far a joy to use.
The front cover was broken upon delivery and I'd likely have taken it off anyway in favor of easy access to the controls. Typically it's the mechanical aspects of such a device that break down, carriage and door motors or belts and it's still too new to determine the longevity of the design or quality of the construction. At this point... I'm quite happy with this purchase.

What I liked about the recorder is nr.1 it works fine, but the best was Sony's tec support! "They are GOOD AND QUICK!"

I really like this product. I have a number of family VSH video's that with age and the heat of Florida I was afraid we may lose forever. Insert a video tape and a blank CD and with the touch of one button we have our family video's archived for life. I purchased this product because I needed it, but also you couldn't beat the price I was able to get on eBay as compared to a retail store and with eBays feedback function it's easy to determine whether your purchasing from an honest seller.

I bought the rdr-vx 530 model a few months ago and I have been very satisfied with it. The new rdr-vx525 is a nicer unit and very easy to use. excellent buy from an excellent seller

I usually keep a DVD/VCR combo connected to my 'second' TV--I don't have room for both. My old one quit and I decided to get a DVD recorder for the sake of quality (I do lots of time-shift recording). I've had good luck with Sony products in the past, so I viewed them favorably. I ordered an identical unit from this seller (LSI Distributors) a few weeks ago. The remote didn't work, and their customer service was excellent--I returned the unit and HAD MY MONEY BACK WITHIN A WEEK! The unit was in good condition and shipped promptly--I liked the idea of doing business with the same folks again. I am quite pleased with this combo. It records and plays well-was easy to set up and is easy to use.

Quality you come to expect from sony, the menu is easy to navagate on inital set up. After that you'r on your own? They have a DVD mode feature that makes it very hard to use a universal remote on the thing!!!!!! that is the single biggest downfall of this recorder. You have to mess with the thing so long to get it right, I just went out and got another remote with learning features. If I had a choice again I would have went to best buy or some where and tested some more combo players out. I wouldn't buy this recorder again, because that DVD mode feature just messes everything up. I'm pretty good at programming anything but this takes the cake. I woundering why they would mess up a good DVD recorder with that garbage. So I would rate this average or even below average. Once you get it going right it smooth sailling. When you record it quick to write, so after you go the the headache of the DVD mode feature mess it should be smooth the rest of the way.

Bought 3 weeks ago. Does lots of things and instruction book could have more details for first time users. This unit is same as Sony RDR-VX555 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo except this unit comes with HDMI cable. I also have the Sony RDR-VX555 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo and the instruction books are almost exactly the same . . the remotes are. I think I am going to like when I learn how to use all the timing features. How to use the Lists and titles are just not clear to me in the instruction book. I did call Sony help line and they helped me . . little hard to understand the tech but we got through it.

I bought this machine for one purpose: To transfer VHS tapes to DVD. The Sony 525 does that very well. The DVDs play back fine. The only thing to beware of with this machine is the procedures for doing things. You must follow the instructions in the manual. If you don't, you create a lot of coasters. And the steps involved in duping tapes to DVD are a bit more complex than I expected. I'm not sure if there's a simpler solution out there for the money. So I'm happy with it.

This is a great product and is pretty easy to use after reading the manual. Very sharp looking and a great brand and product. I have been looking for this style and brand for awhile and is exactly what I wanted

The Sony RDR-VX525I is a good unit and performs as stated. When recording it preserves the recorded taps just as it is. I see no improvement in quality from the original. The instructions and remote are relatively easy to use. I also have a comparable JVC unit and would not be doing this review justice if I did not mention the differences. The quality of A DVD recorded from a tape on the JVC unit appears much improved when played on my HD display. The difference is consistent even when played through the Sony. The Sony can record double layer while the JVC can not. When I record something long, where a little bit of upconverting would not make much difference, I prefer to use the Sony unit. For all other upconverting I prefer the JVC. Also, for me, the JVC was much more difficult to understand and I felt the instructions lacked in user friendliness.

I like the fact that I can transfer vhs onto dvd.like what it does and I think it is capable of doing a lot more than I am smart enough to do. I usually just wind up using as little features as need to do whatever I am set out to do so I don't realy ever use any thing to it's full potential.

I bought this item because I was having troubles with the one I had at that time.
This item has worked great, and I have had no problems up to this point.

When you load the dvd it does not respond as quickly as a normal dvd player. Also; the dvr i purchased said that it was NEW, I highly doubt this because it was very dusty and dirty. I would have returned it but it was past the sellers time line when we used it fir the first time. It arrived the morning we went out of town for the holiday. I wish it worked as well as normal dvd\dvr players.

I've had my recorder for a couple of days now and it is outstanding. The one touch Dub works great, without any problems. The reordered discs picture and sound quality are excellent. I use the Maxell DVD+RW 4.7 GB 4x Discs which automatically formatted in this recorder.
Sony did a great job with this recorder.

like one touch recording button. Dont like the fact there is no tuner. Bought because of the Sony name and value

I do not like this produce event the seller who sales this Sony RDR-VX525. I did buy it last two months, but it doesn't working properly with any DVD movies and not good for dvd recorder too. I did buy a very good quality DVD-RW (Sony brand new dish) and the Sony RDR-VX525 still doesn't make a recording well. I have to insert the DVD-RW dish so many time for dvd recorder process and format the dish. Totaly this DVD sony RDR-VX525 just read only the very high quality dish. If the this have a little bit scrath or not a brand name high quality dish movies or you rent the DVD movies from Hollywood, Blockbuster rental movies stores this dvd player will not read the dish. My opinion is do not ever buy any product from Sony DVD player.

A customer who make a mistake when buying the Sony RDR-VX525

I bought this Sony RDR-VX525 DVD/VCR Recorder to replace my broken Toshiba DVD recorder (2 years old) and Pioneer VCR (2.5 years old). The HDMI connector makes the picture crystal clear rom DVD. What a wonderful movie watching experience! One-Touch DVD to VCR copying is really a wonderful feature. So far the only complaint I have for this unit is the incompatibility of DVD format. I tried 4 different DVD-RW or DVD-R brands to find only one DVD-R works so far.

I bought a Sony RDR-VX525 Player. This was an excellent transaction. The delivery was quick, as promised. The product was exactly as described.

excellent product,however without remote for unit,hard to get functions to work. would buy unit again,but this time with correct remote.want another dvd recorder for backup,since i transfer a lot of vhs tapes to dvd discs.
