Pros:
Held my interest from beginning to end;
Cons:
Not a single one;
James Patterson has dazzled me again with another Alex Cross novel.
Alex Cross is a psychologist/ homicide detective. He has the unique ability to get into the head of psychopathic killers and calculate their next move. As I read "Alex Cross" novels, I envision him as highly intelligent, suave, well-spoken, a perfectionist, and a darn good dresser.
Dr. Alex Cross has two killers to contend with in the 1997 police detective thriller "Cat & Mouse". One foe is located here in the United States and another terrorizing Europe with his antics. Both assailants make a challenging case for Dr. Cross, making it Cross's most difficult case in his lifetime.
Patterson fans have already met one of the psychopathic characters, Gary Soneji. In previous novels, Cross and Soneji have encountered with each other, but have not dealt with each other on a level this high. This time Soneji wants to get personal with Cross - until the very end. Readers are revealed a few more obscurities within Soneji's twisted mind. Soneji leads Cross and his FBI cohorts on a wild goose chase through the train stations of the East Coast, threatening the lives of many.
But who is the other killer in Europe? He goes by the name "Mr. Smith" and is as evil and destructive as Gary Soneji. Could there be another lunatic copy-catting Soneji? Do they know each other? Are they battling to see who can maim and kill with more finesse? Are they the same person?
Another detective named Thomas Pierce is trying to solve the murders in Europe. Mr. Smith brutally murdered his fiancee a few years ago. Pierce feels that he must hunt down and stop Mr. Smith's crazed rampages.
Patterson's has a clean writing style that tells a gripping story without belaboring issues. He
succinctly exposes details only when needed. Chapters in Patterson's novels are notoriously short, consisting of only a few pages, making it perfect to take the book along to read while you are on the go.
I finished this 400 page book in 2 days. I only put it down when it was absolutely necessary. The book went along with me as I waited for my son to get out of school, it accompanied me as the car tires were rotated, it helped me pass time as I was downloading new programs from the internet. The story line didn't escape my mind even when I drove and couldn't read. I was either reading the book or thinking about the plot from the time I picked the book up to the time I finished it.
Keep them coming Mr. Patterson!
