Pros:
Awesome talent, great story.
Cons:
Slow at times
This would not have been the type of movie I would have pulled off the shelf in the video store, and brought home to watch. I had looked at it in the rental store, read the box, and put it back more than once. It just did not seem to grab me from the description written on the box. But after it had been available for over a year or so, my wife went to the video store, read the box, and brought it home. She watched it alone, because she knew I did not seem interested in it. She liked it so much, that for her upcoming birthday, and she was thrilled to death.
We owned that movie for over a year, and I still never watched it. I came home form work one day to find my wife inserting it into the DVD player, as she intended to watch it once again. So, I sat down and started to watch it with her, and since she beat me to the Television, it was her choice!
I made some popcorn, and started to watch it, at first it was as I feared, as it started out slow, and appeared to be a "chick flick". I stayed the course however, and I'm glad I did. Even though it could be slow at times, this movie kept me glued to the Television. And as a man, who could resist looking into the eyes of Claire Forlani! That woman has some of the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. And of course there was a little treat for the ladies, as Brad Pitt starred in it as well.
Anthony Hopkins made the movie for me. I believe him to be one of the best actors of my time. When he speaks, you just want to listen. He has that way about him. Hopkins finds himself faced with a little reality check, as he is introduced to Brad Pitt, and soon realizes he is the Grim Reaper, who has a job to do with Hopkins. After he (Hopkins) realizes that his time short, he begins to have a much different outlook on his life, and begins to show his love for his daughters, and his wonderful life. He also gets a chance to know who his real friends are.
Brad Pitt, had been in the movie earlier as a normal human being, and was awe struck with Forlani, as she was also taken by him. However after their brief encounter in a restaurant, they go their separate ways. Unfortunately, he is struck by a car, and his body is taken over by the Grim Reaper. He sought out Hopkins, only to find that Hopkins was the Father of Forlani. Although he has no recollection of the encounter they shared, he stays in their home to stay by Hopkins' side.
Pitt and Forlani eventually fall in love, and to him he is like a virgin child. He s never tasted food, and he finds peanut butter to be his new favorite. And now that he s never been able to sample all the fine things in life that we take for granted, he gets the chance to experience the one thing that's only second to satisfying hunger, SEX.
Things go well for the two of them, however he soon realizes that his time here on earth is temporary, and he came to do a job that must be fulfilled. Forlani eventually gets a sense about him, that something just isn't right.
The move has an awesome story, and kept my attention, unlike most that only put me to sleep! I really enjoyed this it, and the cast most certainly makes the movie. I recommend at least watching it once, and hopefully you'll love it as much as I did. This is definitely a keeper for your collection.
The movie can be slow at times, and it is a long one, but don't give up, it will be worth it. So make sure you have some spare time, and some popcorn ready, to sit back and watch it in it's entirety
