Filter Queen Majestic: Pawn Shop Special...& worth it!
Review created: 01/23/08

I bought my Filter Queen Majestic for $40 at a local pawn shop over 3 years ago. I am uncertain to how old my Majestic is, but it looks circa 1970's-ish. I have always liked the older vacuum cleaners because they are good quality and simply because they dont make them like they used to! I have been extremely pleased with the performace of this cleaner, and have had minimum maintenance issues since the purchase. (I have had to replace the drive belt on the floor attachment and soon to replace and order more filters. If you have the oppurtunity to purchase one, do so. The newer cleaners out there cannot even begin to compare to the quality of these machines!

We had one demonstrated in our home - new ones cost $1800. We really like the machine, but couldn't afford it. We bought an older one for a total of $195 including shipping, really good buy. We also recommended it to our daughter and she also bought one from e-bay. She got a newer one, like the one we saw demonstrated, for $549-another really good buy. Very pleased with the product.

Filter Queen is the best cleaner

I have had a Filter Queen since 1965 and have enjoyed the capacity of the unit and what it can do. My unit stopped working two months ago and my wife and I decided it would be more beneficial to buy from Ebay than have the old one rebuilt.

The recently purchased Filter Queen is excellent for what is needed in our household and the price was much less than having the old unit redone.

Everything was as claimed on the ad as shown in the Ebay and the quickness in receiving the item was a plus.

thanks

I have one two of these. They are both over 30 years old and work like I bought them yesterday. I needed one for the upstairs and these vacuums are AWESOME! Beat the pants off the Dyson.

Clean in more ways than one!

Years ago, I had a Filter Queen vacuum which I found to be extremely good but I had to leave it behind due to a move. Really missed that unit for what it did and i decided to check Ebay for a replacment. Glad I did.

These vacuums have excellent suction and air flow allowing quicker cleaning of the home. And, with their much above average filtering, they clean both the dirt from your home and the air in the home. I remember being truly shocked at what I would find in the dirt cannister when I emptied and the pleasant smell when using the machine. No weird smell comes from the vacuum when you are using it and you do notice a difference in the air quality with frequent use.

They are very quiet in operation, much more so in the low speed mode. Possibly, this is the quietest vacuum I've ever experienced. The downside is that the vacuum is so quiet it makes the powerhead seem very noisy. The powerhead is probably no noisier than any other but, with the quietness of the main unit, it just seems to be noisier than expected.

I'm not fond of the unusual way the attachments fit but they do stay firmly in place while in use. And, because of the unusual fit, aftermarket accessories not made specifically for Filter Queen will not fit without an adaptor (usually available at any vacuum store). But these attachments are very well made and last indefinately. As will the powerhead with only minor maintenance. I'd recommend all owners check the powerhead at least every six months for buildup inside and change the belt at least yearly. Not hard to do and makes for a longer lasting unit. I would like to try out the newer style powerhead and hose, tho. It looks like it would be easier to use.

The filtering system in a Filter Queen is outstanding! No bags, foam filters or pleated filters. Just large cellulose cones which fit over the bottom of the main motor unit. Very effective - in fact, I've read in several places where this cone filter exceeds HEPA! Yes, the cones can be difficult to find locally - Ebay to the rescue! - but work so well the difficulty is minor. And, they are not expensive. Just remember to replace the small grey inside filter every six changes to keep the excellent filtering quality.

Emptying the dirt cannister is very little different than emptying that of a modern bagless vacuum. Only larger and capable of holding much more. I remove the motor top and hose, take the cannister out to the garbage can, remove the filter cone and dump. I've been told by many old hands that a garbage bag can be placed over the top of the cannister to aid in dumping but it's never been a problem to me. What fascinates me is that this is a cyclonic bagless design - essentially similar to modern syles - but it came out in 1928 and still is better than most new styles.

Overall, they are a great vacuum, terribly overpriced when new (but, worth it) so I recommend Ebay. They are built to last with tried and true engineering and will be very economical to use over the years. My vacuum shop tells me that they are very easy to work on should work be needed also.

Without question, the finest cleaner made.
Review created: 09/14/07(updated 01/06/08)

In forty-three years on this planet, I have used (or seen in use) literally every vacuum cleaner out there: Hoovers, Eurekas, Electroluxes, Kirbys, and even some unheard-of ones like Vorwerk. But, of all the machines I've used, the best canister vacuum is the Filter Queen.

I recently purchased a Filter Queen Majestic Triple Crown here on eBay. The Filter Queens I'd worked with in the past always had excellent suction, were way quieter than most other cleaners, and were relatively easy to use. And, they did an excellent job of removing the dirt. So, you could say that I knew what to expect when I got my new Triple Crown. Needless to say, I was not disappointed! The Triple Crown is just as quiet, just as powerful, and just as easy to use as the Filter Queens of my memory.

Many people have commented on Filter Queen's ability to easily remove pet hair from carpeting, furniture, etc.: I can say yes, it's true. The Triple Crown is outstanding at getting rid of pet hair, period. While I've found some uprights that do as good of a job, I have yet to find another canister as good as the Filter Queen at getting up pet hair.

Some have said that parts are somewhat hard to come by: I have not found that to be the case. I am the former owner of a vacuum cleaner repair shop, so I do have contacts with some parts suppliers for most everything I need: between eBay and my local vacuum cleaner shops, finding whatever else I might need has been a snap. (Those without parts suppliers like might should also have no trouble dealing with their local shops and eBay for everything they need.)

You have many choices today for vacuum cleaners: if you choose to buy a Filter Queen from eBay, you will be making a choice that will serve you well for many years to come!

I purchased the Filter Queen Majestic Canister Vacuum for a gift. It was discribe in near mint condition. The machine is a nice looking machine. Filter Queen are one of the best vacuums. My complaint is the short cord from hose to vacuum is defective and machine cuts in and out during use. The hose also has some air leakage.

This was as close to a perfect match as anything I have found to replace the factory filters that came with my system. I couldn't believe how reasonable the "Buy It Now" and the shipping rates were, as well. Thanks to EBAY for having great sellers and services!

This vacuum is awesome. It has tons of power and is super quiet. The machine is sold door to door for 2000 dollars but you can get a beter deal here. No dust comes out of this thing either. You can even scent the air. I would definitely reconmend this machine for people with pet hair. Works great on my flooring surfaces. Make sure you get the aircleaner (the defender) too. the only thing I don't like it that it is hard to get parts for it.

Filter Queen Vac should be dethroned

My hasband and I saw a demonstration for a different but very similar vacuum and we couldn't see paying $2500 for it so we looked for another good vac on e-bay. Found the Filter Queen and read many wonderful things about this workhorse vacuum. We won the vac for only $100 plus about the same amount in shipping. Sadly, we are not impressed with the vacuum at all. It has no power. It came with a used filter which may be part of the problem so we will take it to a vacuum dealer and see what they say. Some of the parts had rust on them and overall, we are not very impressed. If we can get it running the way it is supposed to for another $100, we will be happy. Obviously, the difference between $300 and $2500 is huge but in this case it is possible that you get what you pay for but I still doubt ANY vac is worth $2500!

Filter Queen Majestic Canister Vacuum - A+++
Review created: 02/02/07

Filter Queen. It's one of the absolutely best vacuum cleaners of all time. It's also one of the most expensive to purchase but its long-term staying power makes it a good value. It is not uncommon to see Filter Queens working perfectly after 20, 30 or more years! (my Mom's is from the 70's and still works perfectly)

I purchased this "2003 75th anniversary edition" to replace my 1990 vintage Filter Queen, which is in perfect working order but lacks the 2003-2007 style power nozzle and hose which are considerably improved and easier to use.

The basic design dates back at least to the 1940's with incremental improvements every few years. Due to this excellent design, Filter Queens have incredible suction and better-than HEPA filtration for "dust-free" vacuuming. They draw considerably less power than "store-bought" brands while providing more suction and airflow. The "Filters" are cheap, at about $1.00 apiece for "Genuine HMI" or about $.25 each for generic. (on eBay)

Negatives: The canister must be emptied into a large garbage bag as there is no tidy bag to easily remove and discard. Older ones (70's-80's) with the retractable cord are quite heavy. Filter Queens are not sold in stores but by direct old-fashioned sales by commissioned salespeople. Some have unscrupulous sales techniques, though my saleslady back in 1990 was very professional. The price is invariably high but somewhat negotiable.

Do not hesitate in buying a used or even a very old one especially if it has been professionally serviced recently. They're THAT good! A 20 year old FQ from 1987 in good condition is still vastly superior to many NEW vacuums. Any problems that may occur can be easily remedied by either a vacuum cleaner shop or the mechanically inclined.

Summary: Filter Queen is THE vacuum for those with allergies or who hate dusting frequently or even those that just want the very best.

Happy eBaying!
Keri

The Filter Queen is by far the best!!! I have sold these machines for over 6 months and will never, ever own another machine. They are the only machines that really work, they never loose air flow and, unlike any other vacuum cleaner, they do not omit dust back into your house. They are the only vacuum that has the seal of the Underwriters Labratory on it (the UL only places its seal on products that are 100% safe and effictive for your house).

TIP - ONLY USE THE MEDI-PURE FILTERS THAT HAVE HEALTHMOR'S SEAL ON THEM. NEVER, EVER USE THE GENERIC OR KNOCK-OFF FILTERS - THEY DO NOT WORK. THEY DO NOT KEEP THE DUST IN THE CANISTER AND THE MACHINE WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY.

Hands down the cleanest Vac out there. No after vacuuming smell, never looses airflow or suction. Little pricier than others and little less user-friendly than others. But actually does what it is supposed to do, CLEAN YOUR HOUSE!!

High-quality made-in-USA vacuum is a bargain on eBay!
Review created: 12/01/06
1 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I knew from college that Filter Queen is one of the "big four" of US-made high-quality vacuum cleaners (viz., Filter Queen, Kirby, Rainbow, and some models of Electrolux), with a big price tag when purchased new. I also new it to be a long-lasting, durable machine, and I needed a replacement vaccuum cleaner for my house. Filter Queen doubles as a HEPA air filter, which is a minor feature I also wanted. I was not shopping for just any vaccuum on eBay; I was shopping specifically for Filter Queen because I liked the features and the reputation of this brand.

The broad after-market at eBay allowed me to understand the price ranges I could expect to budget for bidding, and the delivery options.

I like the strong suction and the ease-of-changing the filter. I like the ease of buying new filters (not "bags," like with other vaccuums) on eBay. I like the soft powerful humming noise while vaccuuming. But it's too loud to enjoy for just air cleaning.

Ebay for upstairs to reduce the carrying and its just as good.

I really like my vacum cleaner. It is spendy but worth the money. I will never have to buy another vaccon cleaner for the rest of my life. The quality is great. The canister holds a lot of dust before you changs the filter. It holds its suction power right up to the time of filter chnage. You cab reverse the air and have it blowing ouy. My husband usues this to blow dust out the computer and other items. It is great to freshen up the romm with the scents you put on the dust pad. It send the fragrance through the whole house.
The only thing I do mnot like is that the hose should be made stronger. When the electrical line running throught the hose gets damoged, you have to relplce the hose.
I have four sisters and they all own Filter Queens.
