Martha Stewart's Housekeeping Handbook is an excellent resource guide to just about everything for your home. The majority of the pages are packed with useful information that readers from all walks of life can implement into their own lives.
It covers the basics of chemical compounds in your average household cleaners and provides recipes to make your own effective cleaners that are less harmful to you and your family.
She covers everything from basic household chores, how often to do what (and how to) to household finances and cost saving tips.
I find this book to be very resourceful. Not only am I reading it from front to back, I have referenced this book at least a dozen times since I have received it.
I highly recomend it to people my age (25), as this is not common knowledge for our age and generation anymore. I recomend it to anyone looking for better methods for taking care of the home.

This is a wonderful resource for anything you need to do in your home. It is written for anyone no matter what stage of life you are in, whether it is just moving out and you've never taken care of a home; to you never quite knew how to do that in the first place! I was at first thrown off by how simple it is, but after spending some time reading it I've learned that this book is chock full of everyday practical tips, checklists, remodeling advice, and tips that only Martha can give! The latest tip that blew me away was in the linen closet, put the whole sheet set inside its matching pillow case to save space and keep organized!

I often thumb through it just to read. As someone who has never had anyone teach me the ins and outs of caring for my home, I am grateful. My husband and our children are grateful as well.

My daughter purchased this book for herself, and on one of my visits, she noticed that I was glued to it each morning when I was waiting for the household to wake up. She decided to give it to me as an early Mother's Day gift. The more I read it, I felt guilty that I took her book, so I decided to buy her one to replace it. I am a nut about home care/maintenance/organization. My daughter is less so, but has nice things she wants to properly care for. There is so much information in this book! You'll find information about maintaining anything in your home or related to your home. It gives info room by room. There is also great information regarding organizaton of all kinds of home systems and routines! It also gave me a lot of things to consider about my home that I had never even thought of previously. I found information about materials used for different home products and why some are better than others. This is a great reference book to have. Of course, you don't get this much information in one book without the book being heavy. But the information in the book is so-o-o-o worth it!

I bought this book to use as a reference. I wanted an easy to use guide for simple questions involving cleaning, and general information for everyday household situations. I love the book..in fact, I have purchased more as housewarming and wedding shower gifts. I think this book is a valuable tool and I keep it on the shelf in my kitchen so that it is readily available and have referred to it many many times already. Martha Stewart is an excellent source of information and this book is worth buying.

Great book, full of handy information. A must have in every household!! From removing stains from clothes to maintaining heating and cooling systems, this book in packed full of usefull information. There are handy checklists of things to do during the appropriate seasons, to prepare your home for the seasonal weather! This would make a nice shower gife for that bride-to-be!

Martha Stewart is one of my heros. In her book she answers any question you might have about cleaning. She usually can give you a natural cleaning agent to help the environment.

Probably the most informative volume of household management written. The information is current and contemporary as opposed to Emily Post and the others who have written. Highly recommend this book. I have used a number of suggestions with success. I still don't go out and milk/render livestock, though! :D

You can find advice on almost any issue pertaining to home upkeep. Also, a very attractive book. As any how-to book, I think some of the advice wil become outdated quickly.

I have a complete collection of all of Martha's books. This is a greatly expanded version of her earlier homekeeping magazine articles and magazine format books. It is huge and covers everything you could possibly want to know about how to keep house and clean any/everything. I love it!! It is a MUST for anyone keeping house or even picking up after themselves. It probably answers every question about how to preserve your home and belongings.

This is more like an encyclopedia than just a sit down-and-read type of book. This is the kind of book I will refer to over and over again. This is a perfect reference book for everything from A to Z. It even has daily, weekly, monthly, seasonly and yearly tasks we should do around the home. Some I knew and some I had now idea! Even those who had fabuolous mothers will benefit from this informative resource. It is clear, precise and easy to read and understand. I chose to buy it because there are some things I don't know how to do and I like being independent; this book explains away all my questions. I will not only keep it and use it over and over, but I will also buy my daughter a copy when she goes out on her own in a few years so she can benefit from it's information as I have. I purcahsed this book because it seemed like a good value for the amount of info it had contained. Of course, it's got the Martha Stewart name, and she's the queen bee of all things household.

I love the amount of information that the book has in it- I used it the day I got it! While there are many household topics covered, there were a few things I was looking for that weren't in the book, but I guess it can't cover every single little thing. It would be nice if there were color photos, but I guess that doesn't matter too much- the info inside is worth more than color photos.

I have several other household cleaning books, but this one covers more than the rest of them combined. It has details and is pretty explanitory when it comes to describing how to clean certain things, and I like the checklists provided for things to clean at certain times of the year (good reminders!)

I'd recommend it to anyone, would be a great gift for a bridal shower or for a new home gift.

I originally bought this book for myself. I love the quality of all "Martha Stewart" books. When I bought the book, I used a gift certificate from a book store that my daughter had given me as a birthday gift...
Just before Christmas, I realized I had forgot to buy an exchange gift for a family friend....I had no money left so I wrapped up my beloved book and gave it to her (thankfully it was still in new condition and my daughter totally understood my mental blooper). The look on her face when she opened it told me I had done the right thing. After my friend opened her gift, I found out that she had drawn my name and in the name of Karma she gave me a gift certificate with the same dollar amount to the very book store my daughter had given me on my birthday. I was off to the bookstore the day after Christmas and I now have my book once again.
I would love to have the pictures in color (therefore the 4/5) but otherwise I find this book up to the standards I have become familiar with when I read anything from Martha Stewart.
