I loved this product. It was packaged nicely. I liked it b/c it was unused and in the original packaging. I bought it b/c the price was fair for an older movie.
It was a really good movie. It was full bodied in every way. The rythum was excellent not too much of anything and a little of everything here and there. There was a lot to learn and was enjoyiable to watch.
I watched the movie for the first time in August and fell in love with it, I just had to have. I could not find it at walmart so I bought it off ebay.
It's a great movie, the actors are great. Mattew McFadyen is awesome, I had never heard of him, now I am a huge fan. He is a british actor, who is better than half of hollywood.
This is the most charming movie I have seen in a long time. I have seen it so many times and I would right now sit down and watch it again. These sisters are such a splendid mix. The music, the landscape---the actors make this one of my all time favorite movies. It is so much more than worth your time...see it and fall in love with it!!!
This film was much criticly discussed & examined because of the popularity of the 6 hour version of 10 years before . . . well, all I can say, is this version rings the entertainment bell loudly . . . Darlin Keira Knightly does a darn good job as Lizzie . . . / although I think Austen's Lizzie had a bit more of a *figure* . . .
My favorite story re: Jane Austen's work = a producer who was involved in one of these film productions said, "this is a great story, would it be possible for the author to make a public appearence, and sign autographs?" To which he was advised, "that would be a bit difficult as she died in 1817." The point is = her stories [ this one most prominently ], will live on, and on . . .
Make it a point to see this film / & the extra's on the DVD make it very worthwhile to own it . . . [ best, dsm8488 ] . . .
Great gift for the girlfriend! I bought it early as a Christmas gift. The movie is well done for a chick flick, and bearable if you are a guy, so I would go with this one. Score points!!
Loved, loved, loved this movie! Mr. Darcy is amazingly attractive! Chic flick! All of my friends love this movie as well! We have tea and sit and talk about this wonderful movie! Keira is amazing in this movie! She is wise and yet very vulnerable! This is a must see!
This is, by far, my favorite version of a much beloved novel. Very solid performances by cast...especially Knightley, Macfadyen, Pike, Sutherland, Blethyn, and, of course, Judi Dench. Beautifully directed by Joe Wright and a superb score by Dario Marianelli.
Primarily, the music composed for this film is captivating as it enhances each scene. I went out and purchased the piano music book and have been playing it daily for weeks as have my grandchildren. The casting could not be improved upon, nor could the period costuming, the glorious vistas and settings, the artful genius of the lighting designer, or the director's technical genius in creating the emotional essence of each camera shot. I do realize that the above review seems to be 'over the top,' however, this film must be added to everyone's personal collection. That said, the Colin firth, A & E, two disk edition-a five hour continuum of a mini series-is every bit as wonderful and engaging, and the casting for this film could possibly be even better than the excellent 2006 version. You will have no regrets whatsoever for adding this DVD to your collection of favorites.
I love this love story my daughter introduced it to me and I can't stop watching it. One thing is for sure the more you watch this movie the more you will understand Mr. Darcy. 2 thumbs-up.
This movie is nothing short of beautiful. From Keira Knightley's glowing skin, to the music underscoring every scene, to the scenery itself, it's just gorgeous. Pride and Prejudice is a story about the Bennett family, particularly Elizabeth Bennett. She meets a man named Mr. Darcy and finds him completely pompous and arrogant. She believes the worst about him and as the truth about him is uncovered bit by bit, she swallows some of her pride as she realizes that she is in love with him and he with her. That's a very summed-up version of a romantic story that everyone has their version of (Bridget Jones' Diary, anyone?).
Keira Knightley is so natural in the dialogue from this period and the dress that one would think she was born there. She has a way of putting things in a modern tone at times that makes her completely relatable to an audience. Her arc of character as she kind of ends up having to put her foot in her mouth is very well contrived from beginning to end. Matthew Macfadyen as Mr. Darcy was very understated and full of poise in the beginning and slowly his defenses come down as he is charmed somehow by Elizabeth's wit, humor, and sarcasm. They have a beautiful scene at the end of the movie as they walk toward each other in the sunrise over the fields. It's breathtaking.
I also have to say props to Donald Sutherland whom I particularly enjoyed watching as he dealt with all these crazy women (five sisters and a mother) who run his household. He puts his foot down when it seems important but otherwise they seem to have the run of things. There's a moment when Lizzie is asking her father's permission to marry Mr. Darcy when she's explaining that she doesn't hate him like everyone thinks and she has to stop and giggle at, "We're both so similar. We're both so stubborn!" and it's so infectious that her father also has to giggle back with tears in his eyes because he's so happy that she found the person who could make her act that way. Also I like him because he resembles a certain Jack Bauer of course.
Well done, everyone! Jena Malone as Lydia is sufficiently annoying and trouble-making and cracks me up with the airs she puts on once she's in the sham of a marriage she has. The mother constantly pestering everyone to marry off her daughters and goes around tipsy at parties bragging about it. That's another thing-- there are so many looooooooong takes in the movie! Mostly in crowd scenes. You just watch and see how often they actually cut away. Not much. In the crowd scenes they just follow from person to person and that takes a lot of effort to have everything so well planned out that you don't have to cut. They did that during even the dancing scenes as they follow Keira from side to side while she conversed. Just a lot of focus to get such great takes without a break for an entire scene.
This movie gets an A. Don't think I'm giving them out like candy either, I've just been privileged to see good movies.
i love this movie its just an amazing love story i bought it because i have the other ones but not the new one i bought it on ebay because it was cheaper and i didn't care that it was used i looked at the sellers reviews and decided i could trust them its kinda like buying a movie from blockbuster used.
For whatever reason I had never read this story in school or knew anything about it. So when I sat down to watch it I received such a blessing in a film that was beautifully directed, timing was impeccable, costuming was awesome, acting was enthralling and the story was very tender and believable. It was one of the sweetest moments of entertainment that I've experienced in a very long time. No foul language, no uncomfortable sex scenes, thank you, thank you, for a blessed moment to reflect on the human heart. LOVE IT!!!
Though not as in depth ast the 1995 A and E mini series, I find this movie very appealing beautiful to view Very upeat and captivating. Kierra Knightly is the Lizzie I picture when I have read the book, and the rest of the actors are superbly cast. the only thing i could have wished for its that they made the movie longer to fit more of the story in, But despite that I still give it 5 stars because of it's vibrancy and feeling. i recomend this film highly
The book by Jane Austen has been made into a movie several times. But with the wonderful color that we have now, this one has the advantage. And it does not disappoint! Keira Knightley plays the second oldest of the 4 daughters of Donald Sutherland and the most independent. Her older sister, Jane, is beautiful but shy and is in love with a rich neighbor who is also shy. Because of their insecurities their relationship gets all screwed up by the neighbor's male friend, Mr. Darcy. This male friend falls in love with Keira Knightley's character and spends the rest of the movie trying to undo what damage he has caused. There are other plots too, including the romance of the 3rd daughter, and a mother played by Brenda Blethlyn (My Left Foot), who is only interested in marrying her daughters off well. And don't forget Judi Dench, who plays a super-rich neighbor who wants one of the men for her super-HOMELY daughter--I mean HOMELY!
The music, cinematography, characters, and a classic plot are TERRIFIC!! This is a real daybrightener; it will lift your spirits tremendously!
Very English. A little slow-paciced for the typical American. Once you adjust to the pace, you get into the characters and get lost in the relationship build up. A definite choice if you want to get in the mood.
I love this movie it is well acted and has beautiful scenery. It is a wonderful remake and I wanted to buy it as my daughters and I love to watch it over and over.
I never received my order in the mail and it is being reviewed by Ebay. No word on what the outcome will be. Just writing this to fill the 100 Characters minimum.
