Just when you think you've seen everything there is to see in these movies you find you haven't even scratched the surface. If you have the time, the extended set will explain and show details that were edited out or not easily understood.

Entire epic movie all in one. Great cinematography, awesome acting, and highly enjoyable special features included. A must by for all Tolkien/LOTR fans. Love it.

i decided to get this trilogy because i have nearly worn out the one i already have, and i knew it would only get harder to find it later on. the best movie i have ever seen. and i am no spring chicken! this product came in great condition!

Short of pouring over every single word Tolkien ever wrote about Middle Earth...which I am in the process of doing, by the way...these 12 DVDs give a much greater depth and understanding to what is depicted on the screen in the 3 LOTR movies. Even with the extended editions of the movies, I, as a thorough LOTR fan, always wanted to know even more about the story, characters, location, etc. etc. and this was like the answer to my prayers. In addition to the extended versions of the theatrical releases, the twelve discs in the set are completely loaded with hours of additional information and insights such as cast and director commentaries and production notes. Beyond that, I just really enjoyed the chance to see more of the wonderful costumes and sets, the inspired music, the sheer beauty of the New Zealand landscape used in these movies. There are many scenes added back into the mix that were deleted when the theatrical releases were edited, and other scenes that did make the final cut were enhanced with more info and more clarity. I recommend this set to anyone who cannot seem to get enough of Middle Earth, as well anyone who wants to gain an understanding and appreciation of what really goes into the making of movies such as these.

Let me tell you why you should own the Lord of the Rings. The first thing that comes to mind is the word GLORIOUS. This trilogy encompasses everything in the world that is good: honor, glory, passion, strength, will, power, friendship, loyalty, courage... and the list goes on and on. I don't need to waste your time, I think you get the idea. It is definitely worth buying the extended edition to get all the amazing scenes that didn't make it to theaters as well as the other goodies that comes with. Plus the dvd boxes look pretty sweet. Overall, it is a wise investment and a fantastical experience.

This is the best DVD series you can get.It has many many scenes that were not shown in thearters or on other editions. This the ultimate pack of DVD's. There is so much extra footage of the movie each one comes with 4 disks- 2 for the movie and 2 for extra's. This will keep you watching for a week straight.

Bought the extended version for a Christmas gift. Was disappointed when the people tried to watch the movie. Two of the disks are damaged and do not play so it was a big let down that the product was not intact.

I bought these for my daughter. She wanted the extended versions and was very happy with all three.

The extended versions add much to the trilogy, and would be enjoyed by all LOTR fans.

I really enjoyed this movie. First of all, the movie is just awesome. Second, all the special features are must see for LOTR fans.

The Extended Edition of the Lord of the Rings trilogy is without a doubt the best way to enjoy these stories. The added scenes are seamlessly woven into the movie and are no less quality than the theater version, and add much more depth and authenticity towards J.R. Tolkien's books. Along with the extended movies, there is loads of bonus features including background interviews and documentaries covering the making of the movie: commentary, actors, script, location, sets, costumes, weaponry, and computer graphics and more. There is days of entertainment and information in this set, and it is well worth the investment.

This was an amazing movie. If you liked what you saw in theatres, then the extended edition of the trilogy is a must have for fans of both the books and the movies. The exteneded scenes and new scenes weren't just thrown in as an afterthought, they actually enrich the story and add even more depth to an already engrossing movie. Just make sure to clear about 12 hours if you plan on watching all 3 back to back to back. Doing that is amazing also!

Helps to answer many questions you have after watching the original version. Additioanl footage is added right into the movie, not added to the end like some. Enjoy and have yourself a Lord of the Rings movie marathon!

This collection is worth so much more than I payed for it! LOVE these movies! Some of the extended scenes are so amazing. There is one in the return of the Two Towers, about Farimere and his family that must've been 30min long!

I bought because the seller handled himself like a professional when answering my questions. This trilogy is my number one favorite movie. The extended version completes what I felt I missed when seeing the original in the movie theater. Highly recommend to anyone who loves fantasy, action and sci-fi. I will also buy from this seller again. When I buy I have to feel comfortable, and this seller did that for me.

Overall this is a fantastic DVD set and comes from quite a reputable seller ( check out his/her reviews).

The condition of the individual boxes they came in were like-new. With the stickers still on them from the original store (mine had Best Buy stickers on them).

There were two or three very small surface, hair line, light scratches. I want to make it clear that even though they were slightly visible, they in no way impacted the viewability and there were no skips or interruptions in movie-play.
And with 12 discs the fact that there were only those few light scratches was great.

The extra scenes on the DVD's are great, too. A must-have set for the serious LOTR fan. Lots of bonus stuff there as well.

The 2 things that I didn't like were:

1. My DVD's came in the individual box cases and DID NOT include the gray-ish colored box that holds ALL THREE sets, as seen in the discription picture on that items page.
I thought that using a "stock photo" was slightly misleading when that didn't come with it but for the value it was a small thing.

2. The shipping cost was somewhat high. I paid $15 for shipping and for that it arrived in about a week, maybe a day less.

I've seen similar INDIVIDUAL box sets (i.e not 1, 2 & 3 together but being sold separately) for $75 apiece.
Now, I love LOTR but I'm not going to pay $225 plus tax for the 3 sets (which are what you get here, all three of them).

So even with the shipping being what it was I still paid less for these three plus shipping than what I would have paid for 1 set in a store.

Unless you like wasting money to drive to the store to buy the overpriced DVD's that you could get for 1/4 of the price online and still have money left over to buy more box sets of great shows... But that's just me. <smile>

When this movie was first released, people tried to compare it to Harry Potter. The only thing similar between the two is that they are fantasy novels. Both are excellent films, but LOTR is much more mature and dark. Excellently acted, written and directed. Spectacular special effects and settings make this film believable. But don’t watch it unless you are ready to invest yourself, the story takes off quickly and similarity in names of people and places become easily confused. Well worth the time spent, and excellent book to film adaptation. The films couldn’t have been better.

I love the lord of the rings trilogy. It's such a great book, cast and now movie. I wanted to buy it because I had lent mine out to a friend and never seen them again. I was looking for them on ebay at a good price and I found them. They are in great condition and I am happy with my purchase.
