Pros:
Mike Myers is one funny fruit cake!!!!!

Cons:
None.

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to have my six-year-old grandson all weekend. We decided to go to the neighborhood pool and go for a swim, after that the fartknuckle wanted to see Men in Black 2. We arrived at the Movie Theater just in time for the 4:00pm show. Since this review is not about MIB2, I will just say it was a good movie, not as good as the first, I give it 3 of 5 stars.

Since the movie finished before six, I decided we should sneak into the 6:00pm showing of Austin Powers in Goldmember, the third Austin Powers movie from SNL s Mike Myers. My grandson was all for it, so if I was going down for sneaking into the movie he was going down with me as my accomplice. We walked right in without a problem, we received the V.I.P treatment. I think we might have been mistaken for Fatbastard and Mini-Me.

Austin Powers in Goldmember starts of with a bang with cameos from Gwyneth Palthrow, Tom Cruise, Kevin Spacey, Danny Devito and Brittany Spears. I won t go into details but these actors are in a skit featuring them playing some of the famous characters from the movie (Can you guess who the under five-foot Danny Devito played?).

Even with all of this star-power Mike Myers is a one-man show through out the whole 90 minutes of this hilarious comedy. Myers plays three different characters that are on screen for just about the whole movie. If you had the privilege of seeing the previous Austin Powers movies, you will remember Dr. Evil and Fatbastard, they are both more outrageously funny than ever before. But now Myers plays another bizarre sinister bad guy named Goldmember. Goldmember is a very flexible roller skating thief from Holland that enjoys pealing off and eating the dead skin from his head and neck. The strong accented Goldmember lost his private parts and they are now replaced with gold, hence the name Goldmember.

Goldmember might be the most complex and detailed character in the movie but the major, major laughs come from Fatbastard and the relationship between Mini-Me and Dr. Evil. My favorite part of the movie comes when Mini-Me and Dr. Evil are sent to prison, surrounded by inmates they break into a three-minute song with Dr. Evil rapping his version of Annie/Jay-Z s Hard Knock Life, the song turns into a video done MTV style. There was not one person in the whole Movie Theater that was not laughing out loud while Mini-Me was strutting gangster style holding his crotch and bobbing his head to the beat of the song.

The Plot
Austin Powers is sent back in time to the 1970 s via the Shag Mobile to find Foxxy Cleopatra, Foxxy is played by Beyonce Knowles (Destiny s Child). She plays a role similar to Foxy Brown the character made famous by Pam Grier, a tuff, sexy black chick with a gun and an afro that takes no sh.it.

After Austin Powers and Foxxy hook-up they attempt to save Austin s father (Michael Cane) from Goldmember and Dr. Evil. Finding the bad guys is not the problem, keeping Austin s mind of shagging is.

The Bottom Line On Austin Powers in Goldmember
If you think the first two Austin Powers movies were good, you will consider this one great. Mike Myers is probably the funniest man alive today. He jumps back and forth with his characters making you laugh with all of them. After learning this movie made over 71 million on it s first weekend in the theater, I don t feel as bad for sneaking in.

My grandson liked MIB2 better, but he does not have such sophisticated taste like myself.

I give Austin Powers in Goldmember a perfect five stars.

I enjoyed your review, it was very informative; however, I was curious why this movie would be suitable for children up to age 4? Judging from the prior Austin Powers movies I have seen, I would not think it would be.

I think this movie is so over-the-top silly that ALL children will know this is just pretend. PLUS the R-Rated jokes will only be understood by adults.

I think children should be taught not to take movies literal and when the movie is this outrageous no child will.
