Pros:
Good story
Cons:
Negative topic
This movie stars Brendan Fraser as a Jewish student in a anti-semetic 1950 prep school for gifted students. It is an all boys school, starring Matt Damon, Ben affleck and Chris o'Donnell. He hides the fact that he is Jewish from his peers because he is poor and doesn't want to lose an opportunity to go to this school on scholarship, and his buddies always make Jewish jokes that are full of hatred and anger. This movie is awful in the cruelness, especially when the other kids find out, but it sends a message that there is no place for hatred and ignorance in society.
You feel the sadness of Fraser's character in each scene, the pain of having to hide his pride, to not be able to share that he is Jewish and proud of it. The acting is wonderful. All the actors bring the added punch for the characters that make this a powerful story and one that you will never forget. He is the star football player, and everyone loves him until he steals the girl of a rival student and his Star of David is discovered and exploited. Some of the kids are very mean and it is hard to swallow because we live in such a politically correct society. It is really eye opening and you will hug your closest Jewish friend after watching it!
