The Others (2002, DVD)

Finally, a ghost story of substance!

Grace (Kidman), the mother of two severely photophobic children, Anne and Nicolas, lives in an eerie isolated mansion just after WWII ends. It's quite a burden on a young and attractive mother to keep the sunlight out of every room her children pass through or stay in, let alone keep up a huge estate that she holds out hope for her war veteran husband to return to and keep with her.

After placing an ad in the newspaper for servants, three such servants arrive on the doorstep. When Grace answers the door, she believes they have come to answer the ad and to work for her. Instead, the trio are the former tenants of the mansion with alterior motives.

When Grace's little girl, Anne, keeps talking to what her extra-Catholic home-schooling mother believes is a child's fantasy playmate, Nicolas (who is the younger child) is scared beyond compare. Both children claim that there is another little boy living in the house. They can hardly be disbelieved by their spiritual mother because of the strange sounds in the house indicating something or someone is hiding and dwelling inside of their home.

The interesting point is that the nanny has no difficulty at all believing the children, and the three keep that secret from Grace. As in the classics "Gaslight, with Ingrid Bergman, and "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte," with Bette Davis, Nicole Kidman finds herself in a very similar sort of situation where inanimate objects become animated, voices haunt her, and she begins growing more and more skeptical of reality.

The film is a tension building, haunted house, ghost thriller. Though it is rated PG, I found it more suitable for an adult because this one could give smaller children nightmares. Kidman gives a first rate dramatic performance based upon nothing but her remarkable acting ability, and not her good looks! She is comparable to Bergman and Davis as an actor, that's why I previously mentioned both of them.

I first watched this movie when my sister bought it a long time ago. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time~!! From the start everything's pretty mysterious and leaves you wanting to know what's really going on.

I have a peculiar taste for movies, and if you consider your taste unconventional as well i recommend you give this one a try. The awesomely wicked end is definitely a shocker.

The movie has to be one of the best thrillers I have ever seen. Nicole Kidman brings such life to the movie, and is very convincing in her role. From the very beginning you'll be at the edge of your seat, as Grace and her two children take you through insane plot twists and boarders horror. You'll never know what will happen next, unless you watch this film as many times as I have!

I was suprised at how well a perforance Nicole can give and did. She did a maginficent job. The picture moved along at a good pace.The plot and storyline was great.

The Others is one of the few movies I choose to watch repeatedly. It's one of those movies that you watch with someone who has never seen it before. The story is so intriguing that few people will get bored. The Others is unlike other horror films, in that it provides characters that are worth caring about. The audience will actually feel for the mother and her two children. I decided to buy this movie, because my old one was scratched and consequently would not play.

What can I say? I love this movie - - - can't explain why. I love Nicole Kidman and her character in this movie. The first time I saw this movie I was totally thrown by the ending just as I was by the Sixth Sense. Nicole is great in this movie as is the little girl who plays her daughter.

I bought this DVD awhile ago and I receive with one week. The product is new and I have no problem with it.

I LIKED THAT YOU DIDN'T REALIZE UNTIL ALMOST THE END THAT THEY WERE ALL GHOST.I BOUGHTTHIS FOR MY NIECE,SHE IS INTO ALL THIS GHOST AND PARANORMAL STUFF.

Her Daughter Is Aware Of This and Finds Things to Be Different After an Incident Has Happened, But Yet She is Not Sure Of What It is. The Father/HusBand Part Of The Movie Where He Shows Up Has Me a Bit Confused So I For One Dislike That Part...Might Feel Different If I Inderstood It. All In All a 5 Star Movie That I Truly Love!!

The movie was good. Suspenseful. but didnt hold my interest in the beginning. I had to stick with it, and it hen began to get interesting. This was definitely not a horror or scary movie. But I liked the little girls part. She was a sraight trip.

This movie keeps you thinking and keeps you on your toes. I love it. The way the photography is shot to create the mysteries to this movie. A surprise ending also puts you through the loop. I literally watch it over and over again. I love it!

I bought this movie because I had it on VHS & decided to upgrade to DVD. The dvd arrived in excellent condition - perfect. I love this movie! If you like Nicole Kidman, the supernatural, and twist endings, you will love this movie too! If you question the after life at all, this movie provides lots of food for thought. You won't be disappointed.

I saw this movie when it first came out. The trailer for the movie seemed that it would be a good scary movie. The first time I saw it I thought it could have been scarier but still liked it. I haven't seen it since. Then I decided to purchase it from e-bay, the price was right. I totally enjoyed it more this time. The performances by the actors were really good. The ending twist was good...I don't want to give it away if you haven't seen it yet.

Very good movie. If you like Ghost stories and movies you'll like this movie.
It has suspense and it's great for the whole family to watch together.

This movie is yet another movie that has a GREAT twist on the ending. You think you know what will happen BUT it doesn't happen that way. You are completely taken by what happens! This movie is a bit slow so the younger kids might not like it, although it doesn't have any bad language or anything I could see that would make it unfit for a child. Pretty good clean movie. I overall liked this movie, like I said not an action thriller or anything, but really good at the ending. WOrth spending your money on and I would hihgly recommend it.

I waited longer than usual but I recieved the DVD in very good condition. I would still buy from this seller eventhough I waited a little bit

not a nicole kidman fan at all but i loved this movie! I kneew from the start the outcome but the film was totally worth wathcing till the end. I have the collectors series.

Kind of a slow beginning, but it gets better. Neat twist towards the end. It is hard to hear though, no matter how loud you turn the volume up on your TV.

I have not recieved the item yet and the person will not contact me back in regards to why I have not gotten it
