Pros:
the first Disney animated classic

Cons:
Snow White's voice is REALLY high

Monumental in its time, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" paved the way for a long line of phenomenal Disney movies. Even today, over sixty years later, this animated miracle is as enjoyable as the day it was first released in the theaters. Snow White is a sweet young princess who lives with her evil stepmother. She spends her days doing menial tasks, dressed as a servant. But she is loved by all who meet her. Only the unrightful queen is not entranced by her charm, and she is so furious when her magic mirror proclaims Snow White the loveliest in the land that she orders the girl killed.

The huntsman obediently leads her into the forest but is unable to carry out his task. He tells Snow White she must remain in the forest, and the terrified princess rushes through the darkness of the trees, pursued by ominously glowing eyes. At last she collapses from exhaustion, only to discover that her pursuers are simply friendly woodland creatures. She recovers from her fear, and the good animals lead her to a quaint little cottage deep in the forest.

Delighted, Snow White cleans up the filthy cottage with the help of her new friends and falls asleep upstairs. Meanwhile, the workday is ended, and the house's inhabitants head home to discover the interloper. With much trepidation, they creep up upon the guest, and they are gratified to discover that their guest is quite pleasant -- and she can cook. Doc, Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Bashful, and Dopey are happy to open their home to this pretty lady, but Grumpy needs a little persuasion. Throughout her visit, Grumpy tries his best to dislike Snow White. But when the wicked queen discovers Snow White's whereabouts and comes to seal her doom once and for all, Grumpy is the first to rush to her rescue.

Each of the dwarfs is extremely likable, but the stuttering Doc, the grouchy Grumpy, and the adorable mute Dopey provide the most laughs. Watch also for the poor turtle, who keeps trying to climb the stairs, only to be knocked down upon reaching the top.

Snow White is sweet and innocent with and unbelievably high voice. Conversely, the handsome prince is a deep baritone. Several great songs are scattered throughout the film, including "I'm Wishing," "One Song," "With a Smile and a Song," "Whistle While You Work," "Hi-Ho, Hi-Ho," "Someday My Prince Will Come," "The Scrubbing Song," and "Silly Song."

Walt Disney certainly hit upon a winner with this one, and it's what really started him along the road to greatness. If you haven't seen it yet, go rent "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and discover the magic that started it all.
