I am reviewing Warren G's album "I Want It All". I bought this album because I have been a fan of his since 1993.
I will review this album in whole, as well as on a song to song basis...
Overall, I think this could be one of the best West Coast rap albums of the year in 1999. This album his many guest artists, as well as songs by Warren G only. I beleive that he has gone back to his roots on this his, 3rd solo album. In all I think that anyone who buys this album wil be very happy with their purchase...
All of these songs will be raed out of 5 stars, five being the best...
1.) Intro-(**) this is just an ordinary intro, with an unknown voice introducing the album to it's listeners.
2.) Gangster Love-(*****) this is one of my favorite songs on this album. It includes cameo's with Kurupt, RBX, and athe smooth vocals of Nate Dogg. This is a very laid back track showing love for Long Beach California. Very cool, you'll love it after a good couple of listens.
3.) Why Oh Why-(***) A pure gangster track that tries to get you into a rough mood. Daz, and Kurupt from Tha Dogg Pound are on it as well.
4.) Dollars Make Sense (**) A slower song, that Warren G tries to rap very
fast over, this is not really his style. A decent song.
5.) I Want It All (****) the title track featuring Mack 10. A great song, with a laid back west coast flow. This is the first single of the album. Don't skip this one, but don't overplay it.
6.) Havin' Things (*****) A collabo with JD. A very upbeat song, with Nate Dogg on the chorus. Very smooth, this one will get ya moving.
7.) You'll Never Know (*****) A great song featuring Snoop Dogg, and Phats Bossi. Snoop lays down a very good first verse. Warrens is good as well. Phats Bossi is a little too hard. Reel Tight provide the chorus.
8.) My Momma (****) A very sentimental track. Nice beat provided by Soopafly, one of the best producers today. After his mother died this year, Warren graces us with the love he has for her.
9.) G Spot (*****) Another great song by a solo Warren. Only two verses which leaves you wanting more. El DeBarge and the Mary Jane girls hit you with a very smooth chorus. A great song deal with Warren G's relationships.
10.) We Got That (***) A very nice beat, the Ruff Ryders are all over this one. If you are a fan of them you'll enjoy this one. Warren does not rap at all in this one. Remenisent of "Back Up" off of "Take A Look Over Your Shoulder".
11.) Dope Beat (*****) Short and to the point. Remeniscent of "This D.J." off of the "Regulate... G Funk Era" album. This one tells the story of how he made it big, along side of his friends.
12.) World Wide Riders (****) A laid back song, nice beat, featuring the 5 footaz, another G Funk partner. Chorus is cool, and the guitars are nice and jazzy.
13.) Game Don't Wait (*****) Possibly the best song on this album. Featuring long time friends Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg. The 213. Very laid back, sweet chorus, this one will give ya chills, every time you hear it. Soon to be his next single although it will be remixed bt Dr. Dre.
14.) If We Give You A Chance (****) A cool song, featuring SLick Rick, one of the for-fathers of rap. His vocals are very good. The chorus is very good as well. It also features Phats Bossi, who drops a tight verse (3rd). Warrens give a shout to Slick Rick in his verse. La Di Da Di, you love to Party to this one.
15.) I Want It All (Remix) (**)- The origional is too good to be remixed. I think this should have been left of off the album. Features Memphis Bleek. I don't like this one that much.
16.) Outro (**) An answering machine message to Warren left by Flava Flav. This is long and drawn out, but it does show how many other people in the industry respect Warren G, and love him like family...
Overal *****
