Pros:
The voice remains.
Cons:
Banal,nausea,repetitious.
This newest release of my 'idol' has affected me in a very negative way. In fact, this may well be the turning point for me to 'let go' of the idolatry. Since high school, Streisand has filled my ears (and my life) with more chills and emotion than one could wish for auditorily,BUT this newest sequence of songs provided me with actual nausea. The classicism that Barbra always exhibited has been replaced with a self-centered, egotistical rendition of all that came before. It is as if she is saying: "I have made it;therefore, I need no fans, no reinforcement from the people (Yes, 'People' - who MADE her!) "Higher Ground" was the first step toward this total avoidance of her fans, her loyal life-long fans. This CD is about Barbra, only Barbra, and seems to lend no greater purpose. One of the attractions to Streisand's work has always been the variety, the integrity, the perfection, the range of emotions she could evoke with her voice. "A Greater Love" adds virtually nothing new to her work. I found it repetitious and banal. Do not misread me; she remains thee diva when it comes to the human voice; BUT we don't need this added to our Streisand collections. Trite, gooey, sappy,do not waste your money.
