I saw this movie when I was on vacation. My daughter had seen it and wanted me to see it. I had heard bad reviews about it. Even my son who likes funny movies said that it was stupid.
Well, I guess this is one that people either love or hate. I loved it and want to see it again. Does that mean that I have a sick sense of humor?? Probably it does. I was born with it and I cant help it.
Ben Stiller plays the bumbling future son-in-law perfectly. Probably not as well as Peter Sellers Could Have, but that takes a special pathetic look.
Robert DeNiro, plays the father in law that is going to be a very difficult man to please. He plays his part well. As for Blyth Danner, she played her part well but it could have been played just as well by others. Her part was to play the doting wife. The Mrs. Cleaver of this household.
Teri Polo plays role of the girlfriend. She looks like a kindergarten teacher and that is what she is. She is sweet and plays the part well. I don t recall seeing her in any other movies. Things go bad for the soon to be son-in-law from the moment he gets off the plane. Naturally his luggage is lost.
There are many funny scenes in this movie. I do not want to give any of them away. I hate it when someone does that. The movie never seems half as funny when they do that.
If you are feeling down or just need a good laugh, you might want to go and get this movie. I saw it in DVD and it showed all the scenes that they did not show. That in itself was worth watching.
