"What do you think is more exciting? Having sex or stealing cars?"

Pros:
Actors, soundtrack, story.

Cons:
Some of the chase scenes are far fetched

Gone in 60 Seconds has turned into one of my favorite movies. I didn't even think I would like this movie, much less watch it over and over. It originally was my husband's movie, but I am the one that spends the time watching it now.

The movie starts with Kip Raines (Giovanni Ribisi) attempting to steal a Porsche from a car dealership. This is one of 50 cars that he needs to fill an order for bad guy Raymond "The Carpenter" Calitri (Christopher Eccleston). After a run in with the cops and losing all of the cars he had already boosted, Kip finds himself in deep doo-doo.

Enter big brother Randall "Memphis" Raines (Nicolas Cage). When his old friend Atley Jackson (Will Patton) comes and tells him of Kip's fiasco, he has no choice but to come out of car theft retirement to help his little brother. He has only 3 days to steal 50 top-end cars, including a 1967 Shelby GT 500, code name Eleanor.

Memphis gets what he can of his old crew together to help save Kip's life by making this boost work. He calls in Donny Astricky (Chi McBride), The Sphinx (Vinnie Jones), Otto (Robert Duvall) and Sway (Angelina Jolie). They decide to make it a one night boost. All 50 cars in one night. Kip brings in his crew of four guys, as well.

Detective Castlebeck (Delroy Lindo) and his partner Detective Drycoff (Timothy Olyphant) do their best to take Memphis down. Castlebeck had been trying to catch Memphis for years before he retired and now is his chance again. By using informants, such as Fuzzy (Bodhi Elfman), they gather information to find out what the Raines brothers are up to.

Everything runs alone fairly smoothly up until cars number 49 and 50. By this time Castlebeck and Drycoff are onto them. Car number 49 barely squeaks in while Sway and Memphis go after number 50. Eleanor. She is Memphis' "unicorn". The one car that no matter how many times he tries to steal her, something always goes wrong. She is the one he can never "catch". When Castlebeck and Drycoff catch Memphis in the middle of stealing Eleanor, the chase is on!

Without going into massive detail, and giving some things away, there are many other characters in the movie. From what I could see, none of the characters could have been cut out. We briefly meet Kip and Memphis' mom, Helen, and see what their life of crime has put her thru. We learn of the relationship that Memphis and Sway had before Memphis left town. There is also some friction between Kip and Memphis that gets worked out in the course of the movie.

Gone in 60 Seconds has a great music in it! The music really fits the scenes. It's mostly upbeat and really helps bring you into the movie.

The actors and actresses really work well together. I, personally, think that Cage and Jolie worked well in this picture. Both really fit the parts. Cage, the reformed big brother, and Jolie, the bad girl turned good to be bad one more time. Ribisi playing the know it all Kip worked out well, too. He and Cage play off the brother scenes great! You'd almost swear they really were related and having a family squabble!

Gone in 60 Seconds is a fun movie. The car chases are a little over the top, such as Memphis jumping Eleanor over an ambulance, as well as other cars, with the help of a flat bed tow truck. The scene with the helicopter chase, when Memphis hit the Nitrous button, was a little more believable, but barely.

All in all it's a good movie. There is maybe one "sex" scene, where Sway and Memphis are trying to boost a car but are interrupted by a couple having sex right in front of the window, but that's it. There is "adult language", however, so you may not want your younger children to watch this one. It's a movie that even girls would enjoy. Not a lot of killing, beating people up and so on. Just a lot of action and fast cars!
