Pros:
Great album, great mix of music, absolutely BRILLIANT!
Cons:
None
Toby Keith finally got the recognition he deserves, at the Country Music Awards the other night. This CD shows you why. Some of the material is old stuff that have been favourites from the first time they were played, and others are new giving you an inkling of what's to come. His music is great to dance to, to sing along with - great driving songs here, folks! Or just for listening to, when you're in that kind of a mood. I know, I do all three.
The tracks on this CD are as follows:
1. Getcha Some
2. If A Man Answers
3. Should've Been A Cowboy
4. Dream Walkin'
5. A Little Less Talk And A Lot More Action
6. Does That Blue Moon Ever Shine On You?
7. I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying
8. We Were In Love
9. You Ain't Much Fun
10. Who's That Man?
11. Wish I Didn't Know Now
12. Big Ol' Truck
13. Me Too
14. He Ain't Worth Missing
Getcha Some
From the opening strains - is that a mouth organ?- this is just a gritty kind of semi-spoken ballad, based on men and women and their basic pre-dispositiion for sex ... and kids ...
If A Man Answers
A guy song - if he calls home and a man answers. This is an excellent song, still a ballad but with some up-tempo bits. Good for a slow cha-cha!
Should've Been A Cowboy
Great song, up tempo, favourite for line dancing and one step or Texas Swing. This one has a real feel-good feeling to it.
Dream Walkin'
Another up tempo, excellent for line dancing or two stepping, you could even slow dance to it - believe me, people slow dance to loads of songs that aren't slow! -and it's just got some excellent music in there. Tugs at your heart strings but it feels so good.
Little Less Talk And A Lot More Action
One of his older songs that is almost rock amid the country. It's raunchy and used to pack the floor with line dancers and those doing a slow swing.
Does That Blue Moon Ever Shine On You
This is definitely a song to hold close to, and grind very slowly. A soft poignant ballad about after splitting with someone. When you still miss them sometimes and wonder if they miss you too.
I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying
Uptempo - excellent song - BRILLIANT to two-step to. Nice beat, nice melody. This is another of those that is also a feel -good sing along, although the lyrics aren't really happy ones.
We Were In Love
Nice ballad, it's a cha-cha more than a slow dance. Excellent melody.
You Ain't Much Fun
This is almost a sixties style drinking singalong song, raunchy with what sounds like steel guitar in there along with the piano and harmonica. Yee-hah!
Who's That Man?
I love this one. It's a guy song - they've split and he drives by and sees some other guy living the life he used to, and it makes him think. Good for singing along with as you drive - you can crank it up and belt it out with him! Line dance , either a cha-cha or tush-push works, or a two-step works with this.
Wish I Didn't Know Now
Another uptempo driving song. It's about when you find things out about someone and you wish you didn't know because it changes everything, and you can't feel the same again. Fast cha-cha, tush push or cruisin' works with this.
Big Ol' Truck
This is one of those raunchier rock type country songs, excellent for Texas Swing or a one or two step
Me Too
A soft ballad, good to spend draped over someone's shoulder. Really nice slow dance song. Nice lyrics you can sing along with (in someone's ear!). Nice harmonies on this.
He Ain't Worth Missing
The beginning of this almost reminds me of a seventies movie score, and then he starts to sing and it changes. There is an excellent dance goes with this song, a couples dance, and I cannot think of the name of it. Sorry. As soon as I remember, I'll update this.
Toby Keith has been around since before I knew his name - even though I danced to songs he did - it's only since getting this CD that I realised this. What a lot of folks don't know is that he WRITES a lot of his own material. He's very talented, not just as a singer. His songs are all relevant to life, you can feel the emotions that come through the words.
I think this is his best album to date, and if you've never bought a Toby Keith album - this is a great one to start with. You'll be a fan from the first time you hear it. I'm glad he won awards this year, he really deserves it. He is an excellent performer, and seems to have a pretty good sense of humour too.
