Pros:
Funny as hell..in a groaner kinda way

Cons:
bah humbug

It's no secret that I rarely look for deep meaning in my movies. No, I look for the fun and entertainment factor. A little cheese is rarely a bad thing to me. So, I feel it my solemn duty to tell those of you who are like me that Wild Wild West just ain't all that bad.

Based on the popular series of the what? 70s was it? '65-ish? I watched it, but I'm getting old here, ok? Where was I? Oh yeah.. like the series we have Agents Jim West and Artemis Gordon travelin' around the old west mostly via fancy private train and takin' down the wildest, wackiest bad guys you can imagine. In this case it's a legless dude who likes to build giant mechanical spiders. ewwwww. Stupid? Sure it is. Fun? Majorly so.

Mr. West, not every situation requires your patented approach of shoot first, shoot later, shoot some more and then when everybody's dead try to ask a question or two.

We've got Will Smith (Men in Black) in the role of James West in the movie. I'm stating here and now that I am a fan of Smiths. There. I said it. I think he's freakin' hilarious, has a great smile, and just tends to have a great deal of fun with any part he's given. Here he has a royal blast.

But that ain't all. We also have the wonderful Kevin Kline of recent De-Lovely fame as Gordon, inventor extraordinnaire. Kline is the king of playing good natured bumblers so this was a very nice casting decision and Kline does not disappoint one bit.

To fill out the cast we have Kenneth Branagh as the funniest bad guy ever, and Salma Hayek as just about everyone's lust interest. I love it. I think I've watched this one about 5 times so far and never fail to stop and chuckle when I cross it's path on cable while channel surfing. I think my favorite part is when Smith and Branagh come together in a double entendre contest. Priceless...

Dr. Arliss Loveless: Mister West! How nice of you to join us tonight and add COLOR to these monochromatic proceedings!

Capt. James West: Well when a fella comes back from the dead, I find that an occasion to STAND UP and be counted!

Dr. Arliss Loveless: Miss East informs me that you were expectin' to see General McGrath here. Well, I knew him years ago, but I haven't seen him in a COON's age!

Capt. James West: Well, I can see where it'd be difficult for a man of your stature to keep in touch with even HALF the people you know.

Rated PG-13 for action violence, sex references and innuendo... Dr. D sayz: let the kids watch it.

Four stars. Forget the naysayers.. this one is bawdy fun!
