Candle in the Wind 1997/Something About the ... - John, Elton (CD 1997)

The year was 1997, and I was standing on the stoop of my dormitory in College. That was the night when I received news about 2 people passing away: Biggie Smalls and Princess Diana. I was surprised to hear such awful news and saddened to come to the truth that what I heard was real.

11 years later, I came across a CD featuring music in loving memory of Diana, Princess of Wales by Elton John. And today, I finally listened to Candle In The Wind 1997/Something About The Way You Look Tonight [Single]. I was thrilled with the music featured and really happy to listen to such energy being delivered by an artist that truly uses his art for greatness.

Elton John is a very talented individual. He is a virtuoso pianist, a vocalist with a rich sound and a composer who crafts really great songs. I started liking his music back in 1996. The job I had used to keep the radio on 106.7 Lite FM and his songs would play on it all day. Since then, I have been a fan of that radio station and a lover of the music he creates.

He has a great sound. His piano playing is really beautiful. The melodies that he creates are awesome. He gets crazy on the chops and does a great job of expressing his music both musically and vocally.

The CD features 2 songs. The first one is Something About The Way You Look Tonight and the second one is Candle In The Wind. Both songs are slow but moving. They are carried mainly by the piano chords and vocal flight of Elton John. And though I heard the first one before on the radio, listening to it on this CD really gave me a different perspective and feel of it.

When Elton projects his voice in the song, Something About The Way You Look Tonight he makes you feel like a cloud across the sun. A song to lighten the serious moods of life. I like mostly the way the sound travels full of his strong vocals and the heavy choral harmonies voicing a mellow but moving groove. It has a catchy hook that can have anybody that listens singing along. I could feel the jazzy guitar strokes and the synths echoing like the winds. The song took on a sort of Gospel music feel because of the energy. It was made up of some really soulful lyrics that can take your breath away and hit you deep inside in a way that I can t describe.

Candle In The Wind was a song of goodbye. A sad song to make you remember the footsteps that used to fall by the legend. A song to the one who belongs in heaven. He calls out her name that is never fading, though rain sets in. It is a great piano ballad for the ears taking in Elton John getting busy on the keys with sparkling amplified notes. The song is emotionally rendered and has a passionate approach, not to mention the really good lyrics. I thought of flowers wilting or how a season changes.

This was a great CD single. It was a great idea for him to dedicate this song to a person for whom he had admiration that was real. His words show strength and beauty and he sings with pure emotion. I really admired what I heard and liked it so much, I put it on repeat and have been playing it over and over again. Candle In The Wind 1997/Something About The Way You Look Tonight [Single] features beautiful music with a good sound, great singing and musical accompaniment. His lyrical navigation is definitely one that I look unto as inspiration.
