Pros:
Catchy tunes, meaningful lyrics
Cons:
None
Looking for some great tunes for your kids (or yourself) that focus on the positive? Try this awesome 1996 release from "SC squared". Steven Curtis Chapman is a great solo artist that sings about God's love in a pop style.
This particular CD, Signs of Life, is one of my favorites from him. I have seen him in concert and heard him testify before thousands about God's power in his life. It all comes through in his music cause he writes most all of it! He also includes scripture reference to help understand where he's coming from.
I like to cover my favorite four songs on an album, so here goes:
* "Lord of the Dance"
--And you thought "Mambo #5" was a catchy tune? Try this toe-tapping melody thought has lyrics that will last eternally! Example: The world beneath us spins in circles/And this life makes us twist and turn and sway/But we were made for more than rhythm with no reason/By the one who moves with passion and with grace/As He dances over all that He has made.
* "Signs of Life"
--The title song reflects his deep passion for his wife and kids. We all see the "signs of life" around our houses each day. The computers, cars and stock portfolio don't hug very well. They don't need our love and direction. They don't let men be "daddy's" and women be "mommies". Lyric sample: The compassion and concern that make this world turn/These are the signs of Life.
* "Let Us Pray"
--This addresses the church-attending flock's tendency to make the offhand comment--"pray for me" when some problem arises. His lyrics address this with the Biblical position--take it to the Lord-NOW! Take it to the Lord-often-in prayer. Lyric sample: Let us pray without end and when we finish start again/Like breathing out and breathing in, let us pray. Awesome song!
* "The Walk"
--The walk of the Christian is steady and non-spectacular. It is the building block of strong families, strong cities, strong nations. You can be some big dog in your profession but if you don't walk the walk, people will know that your words are empty.
This is just one of many Steven Curtis Chapman albums-I recommend them all. Remember, Christian CD's are nice because the truth of they lyrics never goes out of style!
