Pros:
That this genius is still among us and continues to pour forth such riches.

Cons:
I hate "I Hung My Head", but I sing along anyway!

For my $16, Sting is, always has been, and always will be, one of the BEST premiere male lyricists/vocalists on the planet. And "Mercury Falling" is no exception to the long, long list of credits to his 5 letter name.

I love the Police. I love Sting: the early solo years, the actor, the maturing man/consummate artist. For me, he has always been the animus counterpart to Joni Mitchell's anima. If that is too Jungian for you: He be the Man, She be the Woman - period!

And lest I confuse my categories here and go off on a rant, that is one of the things I love most about Sting: his obviously well-integrated feminine aspect of self that allows him such emotional range and spiritual depth - access to feelings and nuances of expression that many male artists just don't seem to articulate one tenth as clearly as he does.

Sting is a superb musician, but what draws me in, personally, is his mastery of lyric, symbology, myth, metaphor and story telling. (And he is obviously easy on the female eyes, and a pleasure to listen to, even when paired with the banal and always-annoying Larry King Live a while back!)

OK, back to the CD...The first cut, "The Hounds of Winter" is typical...haunting, moving, soulful. How to find new and innovative adjectives to describe his songs? "Let Your Soul Be Your Pilot" is one of the most uplifting and healing songs of late...I am surprised that the New Age Faction has not seized it as a theme song. "I was Brought to my Senses" is one of my favorite love songs of the last few years. Just gorgeous! "You Still Touch Me" rocks in typical Sting fashion, (you'll wanna dance!), and "All Four Seasons" is not only a kick, but has some very clever lyrics.

I find one of the most touching and realistic songs on the CD to be "I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying". A soon-to-be-divorced father tells his story, and I hear tell that in concert Sting invites "men who relate" from the audience onstage to sing this with him. Sort of a "Male Bonding" anthem, and certainly much needed. I love the Sting sense of irony in the song as he refers to his divorce lawyer, saying: "Mr. Good News, he got me joint custody and legal separation."

What is possibly left to say that is original about this creative giant of our time? Buy this CD. You will not be sorry.
