Pros:
Good Songs, Nice Emotion, Great Lyrics, Timeless Quality
Cons:
Could be viewed as Disturbingly Cheesy
Okay, you can call me a semi-Madonna fan. I think she is okay and I really think she did some good songs throughout the years. I'm just don't think she is God like everyone else seems to think.
Like when Madonna does something everyone usually does...say like cough...everyone is like "Omigod Madonna just coughed" the same tone like saying "Omigod GOD just coughed". I just think Madonna is an artist that managed to keep her career fresh every second...Gosh dangit she's such a good musician.
But thats enough of my ranting, I decided to review Madonna's "Something to Remember" because well, I think I should review it because I'm not ashamed of owning this album and I'm finally admitting it.
What does the album sound like?
This is yet another compilation from Madonna. Its a compilation full of BALLADS! Sweet Subtle Sentimenal songs that can jerk a tear any second and leave you bawling in the dark. Most of these songs are her greatest hits from the beautiful "Take a bow" to the heartwrenching "Oh Father". The lyrics are laced with poetic words of emotion filled with instrumentals that fill the air...strings, strings, piano, strings. Quite a romantic album.
Why I dislike/like this album
There are a lot of really good songs on this album...Music from OTHER albums! I don't really own any other Madonna albums and I think thats good FOR ME! But if you have a lot of Madonna albums I suggest you shy away from this one and well burn your own Madonna Ballad album. If you are like me and just want to listen to the best ballads Madonna has to offer then just pick up "Something to Remember".
Some Ballads are beyond cheesy but thats what ballads are supposed to do. These set of songs are supposed to make you remember your last date when you slow danced with a dirty guy named Johnny who thought slowdancing was stepping on your toes. Yes, I'm a real romantic at heart and this album brings all the painful yet irritating memories back in a good way I guess.
Some songs can be seductive like the song "I want you"...and some songs could be sentimental like "I'll remember". Majority of the songs are sentimental and sultry (I'm using a lot of adjectives that start with S). Each song is really "something to remember".
Top 5 songs
1. I'll remember - This song was actually from the movie "With Honors" but the lyrics are really really good and uplifting.
2. Take a Bow - This song is about how a fan is obsessed with a movie star in some way. Good song for the Romantic people.
3. One More Chance - This song is radically different because of the acoustic guitar.
4. Rain - Yet another uplifting song about falling water.
5. Oh Father - I guess this could be considered the most personal song from Madonna on the whole album.
Classic or Forgettable?
The album is really good if you want to be swept off your feet. The songs couldn't of been picked out any better and the feeling it gives out is uplifting. The songs do have timeless quality and really are not upsetting like the cheesy pop 80s era. If you don't really own any other Madonna album with the set ballads this album displays...then I suggest you pick it up. I stamped (Classic)
