wonderful scenery, acting, and portrayal
Cons:
none
This movie was so well done! Can't you see the sweat shops, the boxing rings, and the Irish part of New York City? Nicole with her spoons to sell, and Cruise's wonderful accent? The setting of the Irish nobleman's home was absolutely as Ireland should be. Green, lush, and with a fairy tale quality. Cruise's accent is wonderful, and his fiery temper is perfect for this film. You can feel the run-away attitude in this film.
Far and Away....two young people run from social and political upheaval in Ireland to make their way to the United States. They may know someone there, but finding them in this vast land is, well, impossible.
"The streets are paved with gold," Cruise says. And, everyone owns land.
Getting to the land is another problem. The good old standard American film love story - Boy meets girl, they hate each other, they go through Hell together, and....they fall in love.
This story will warm you, will fill your eyes with the reality of life before all our modernization...will make you appreciate what your forebears may have done to get where we are today. It's not that heavy a movie, but it does enter your mind.
Great story of sacrifice and determination. Rent it!
