Pros:
Greatest hits from one of the greatest rockers
Cons:
The Boss' greatest hits could include newly released songs
One more could one ask for? A "Greatest Hits" album from one of the greatest rock and rollers of all time. Bruce Springsteen has been pumping out some of the finest rock and roll for decades so it should come as no surprise that his "Greatest Hits" is simply an amazing album.
"Greatest Hits" is put out by Columbia Records and was produced by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Landau, Chuck Plotkin, and Steve Van Zandt.
The album starts out with two of everyone's favorite Bruce Springsteen hits "Born to Run" and "Thunder Road". One would expect such a high caliber greatest hits album to start off with two high caliber songs. The Boss did not disappoint here.
More of Springsteen's good old American rock and roll anthems can also be found on the album. Songs like "Born in the USA" and "Glory Days" are songs that every true rock and roll listener will not only know, but cherish. The Boss might be most known for these two songs, therefore, they are wise choices for his "Greatest Hits".
Newer music from the 90s can also be found on the album and is as new as the selection gets. "Streets of Philadelphia" was produced in 1993 and "Secret Garden" was produced in 1995, both appearing on soundtracks to movies. While some soundtrack hits often times do not find their way onto musicians' greatest hits albums, Springsteen is keen enough to know that these two songs are of such great performance that they are well-deserved of placement on "Greatest Hits".
I must say that I was surprised by some of the choices on the album. Songs like "Brilliant Disguise" and "Murder Incorporated" while both highly impressive songs, I would not have considered placing on "Greatest Hits" had I have been the producer. Although, I would tend to guess that Springsteen was merely trying to mix things up by placing these two songs on his "Greatest Hits".
Bruce Springsteen's "Greatest Hits" might be one of the finest greatest hits albums produced. The track listing for the album is:
1. Born to Run
2. Thunder Road
3. Badlands
4. The River
5. Hungry Heart
6. Atlantic City
7. Dancing in the Dark
8. Born in the USA
9. My Hometown
10. Glory Days
11. Brilliant Disguise
12. Human Touch
13. Better Days
14. Streets of Philadelphia
15. Secret Garden
16. Murder Incorporated
17. Blood Brothers
18. This Hard Land
For a truly good glimpse into the musical genius of Bruce Springsteen or for old fashioned Springsteen fans, this album is essential listening material. You better be "Born to Run" and head on over to your local record store to purchase this album.
