This is a great film. This is probably the best acting that Jodi Foster and Robert Deniro have ever done. Jodi Foster was so great that I at times would forget she was only 12 at the time this movie was shot. Great story set in a decaying NYC. I saw this movie as a 12 year old kid back in the mid 70s and did not find it toubling. NYC was creapy just like the move at the time.
The defense angle that Hinkley took was so strange during his trial. I think this movie should be shown in political science classes just for the historical perspective.
It is also nice to look at how NYC looked when the DEMS ran it.. Rudy really cleaned the place up after 40 years of poor management. I remember NYC being spooky as a kid. Now it is clean and hospitable.
What is not to love about this Deniro flick? I mean when this movie came out and you saw Deniro for the first time and you knew he was going to be a superstar. This is a movie that everyone who loves movies should have. No great movie collection is complete without Taxi Driver. Anyone and anyone who likes movies has to at least see this movie once. I recommend seeing it over and over. I don't feel like you can watch this movie once and get a real appreciation for it. Trust me, I am a movie lover and this is one flick one person should go without seeing.
C'mon...Taxi Driver is one of the best movies of its time...classic DeNiro..I highly recommend it. This movie put DeNiro on the map and featurs Cybill Sheopard and a young Jodi Foster as well
Classic excellent movie. De Niro at his best. Cybill Shepard does a good job also as does Jodie Foster. One of the best lines in a motion picture>> "Are you talkin' to me?, are YOU talkin' to ME?
For anyone who has ever wondered WHY people walk around saying, "Are you talkin' to ME?!", this movie is why. For anyone who wondered what the heck George Michael was trying to get across as a cab driver in his "Father Figure " video - this movie is your answer. It is a classic; a cultural icon, and of course, a disturbing piece of American history in the impact it had on real life would-be assassin, Hinkley. Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of this film is in how easy it is to sympathize with the title character. He could be anyone. Perhaps a part of him is in everyone - and that is the creepiest thought of all. Want to know what the heck all these esoteric and somewhat cryptic reviews are trying to say? SEE IT. OWN IT. You will not be the same for having watched it. DeNiro is a genius, and creepy as hell.
It is just a great movie to own. I had it once and lend to a friend and never got it back. Oh well, now I have it again. One thing I didnt like is that the seller never left me my feedback.
A gripping and landmark movie. Mr.DeNiro has many, many wonderful parts to his credit, but this film may rank as his best. At one point in this movie he is in room with an out of control headache. This is a everyday occurance for many Vietnam Vets and at this point you wonder if this is what Mr.Scorcese was trying to project. If so you can feel for Mr.DeNiro's character. A great and powerful movie.
