Pros:
Just love that voice.
Cons:
Makes me very emotional.
This is one of my favorite albums that Elvis recorded. I purchased the record in England in 1977. It was released by RCA and cost me 2 pounds 89 pence ($4.50). I played the album several times but when the C.D. came out I purchased that too. I keep all my Elvis albums in the best condition possible as they are now worth money.
I adore Elvis's music. In the late 60's I was a teenager and so wanted him to visit England. He never did. The Beatles were the "in" music in England, but I stayed true to Elvis.
This album/C.D. has 10 wonderful tunes on it.
1. Unchained Meldoy.
A wonderful ballad that he sings with such meaning. He sings "I hunger for your touch. Are you still mine?" Boy I would have said "Yes" instantly. Such passion in his singing.
2. If you love me (let me know).
This is a little more upbeat. Elvis says "You came when I was happy, in your sunshine......" He so wants to keep her, but has to know if she cares.
3. Little darlin'.
You hear Elvis saying "Litttle darlin'" before he sings. A great dance song. Lots of the old Elvis in this one. He also speaks in this one. "My darling, I need you ....", just like the old days. Really upbeat and entertaining.
4. He'll have to go.
It starts "Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone. Just pretend we are together all alone. Tell the man to turn the jukebox way down low. You can tell your friend there with you he'll have to go". This is such a sad song. My heart goes out to Elvis in this one.
5. Let me be there.
This is a great upbeat tune. Elvis tells us "Wherever you go ...... I always want to be there. There is a live audience on this track. The girls are screaming all through it. He even has to do an encore. Just fantastic.
6. Way down.
This exciting song gives you a full range of Elvis's singing talent. It is exciting and powerful.
7. Pledging my love.
A great slow ballad. Filled with compassion. "Making you happy is my desire. Keeping you is my goal ...... for your loving way". So romantic.
8. Moody blue.
The title track. Great intro. Really catchy. He tells of a complicated lady, Moody blue. He asks "Tell me if I am getting through". Don't we all think this way sometimes.
9. She thinks I still care.
This one has me in tears. I really think this one was written with Prisilla in mind. My heart hurts when I listen to it. He asks "Just because I asked a friend about her. Just because I spoke her name somewhere. Just because I rang her number my mistake today. You know she thinks I still care". I truly think he still cared about her, and it definitely comes out in this number.
10. It's easy for you.
By the time I get to this one I am in tears. Another sad song with such great lyrics. He tells us "It's over. It's easy for you. You don't have to face the crowd. I had a wife and I had children, I threw them all away. I should go back to them, what should I say. I found it hard to leave them. The saddest thing I had to do, and it"s easy for you".
The emotion in his voice is so intent. His heart opens to us as he pours out his troubles.
This was the last album Elvis made and his vocals were recorded in his den at Graceland. I think it is a wonderful tribute to his ex. wife. Some wonderful lyrics in there from people like, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice. Two of my favorites.
Background voices of The Sweet Inspirations, Sherrill Nielsen, Kathy Westmoreland, J.D. Sumner & The Stamps, and Myrna Smith.
The album has a good sound but the C.D. was digitally remastered and has a wonderful sound.
Even to the end Elvis kept his voice. Truly the KING.
