Pros:
Elvis at his best?
Cons:
Elvis at his worst?
The first time I purchased Elvis In Concert was about 20 years ago on a cassette. Through the years I replaced it a few times and now I own it on CD.
A lot of negative reviews came off this album and for the most part I can understand but then again I can't.
This album portrayed Elvis at his very best vocally. Not on all the numbers on the album but quite a few. It was easy to tell what "charged" Elvis when it came to doing his very best on songs. Songs like Hurt, My Way, You Gave Me a Mountain, How Great Thou Art, It's Now or Never, were vocal "crowd pleasers". For the most part these songs were occasional songs added to the set list. Out of 1,129 sell out shows from 1969-1977 I think I would be sick of singing songs like Hound Dog, Teddy bear and some of the songs that made him famous and not put 100% into them. Despite the flaws, the fans flocked. Elvis did'nt have to rely on pyrotechnics and stage theatrics like groups or singers then or today. He was a one man entity who eventually became over exploited by management greed and personal excess. In the end however, the one thing that never failed him was his voice. That was evident in many ways on the Elvis in Concert album. Good bad or indifferent, Elvis always gave the fans what they wanted......Himself
