Pros:
It's George Harrison's finest.
Cons:
Doesn't include "All Things Must Pass"
I have to let you know that although, I am only now reviewing this album, I am not one of those people who ran out and bought it just because the guy is dead. This CD has been a part of my collection for awhile.
I chose to write about it now, because it is a record of the best stuff Harrison ever did, and if you don't know a lot about George Harrison, but want to now, this is a good CD to start with.
The Best of George Harrison covers his songs with the Beatles, as well as in his solo career.
The first 6 or 7 tracks are Beatles tunes, the best of which is "Something". This is a song that explains how every woman wants her man to think of her. "Taxman" is also a great cut. It seems that no matter where you live you can relate to this song.
"My Sweet Lord" is probably the best know track. It is originally off of "All Things Must Pass", George's fist solo album, done in 1970 just after the Beatles breakup.
Speaking of "All Things Must Pass", that is the one tune that I personally think should be on a greatest hits album. This is my personal favorite George Harrison tune, and I was a little disappointed that it was not included.
Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) is my favorite tune on the album. It is a glimpse into the eastern spiritually that Harrison brought to the west.
"Bangla Desh" written for the Concert for Bangla Desh is an incite into the kind of person George Harrison was. His main purpose was to help make a better world.
The album finishes up with "Dark Horse" which is an okay tune, but I don't think falls into the category of a greatest hit, and "What is Life. This is a highly insightful song.
I have listened to this CD a lot over the past week, and just want to say, "Thanks George for the enlightenment you brought into my life.
With the passing of George Harrison was the passing of one of my heros, and I will truly miss his music and messages that never had a chance to be sung.
