Pros:
Easy to follow techniques

Cons:
No Care or storage instructions for the finished gown.

In my opinion Susan Khalje has written this book for the dressmaker that wants to take her skills beyond the ordinary, to add those touches we call Couture and learn a few new techniques.

An accomplished designer Susan starts by leading us through various beautiful gowns she has created really wonderful photos enough to drop your jaw! WOW factor 10!

After this bevy of gowns she deals with fabrics and their treatment.
The many types of Laces , the cutting techniques involved is invaluable, it is also wonderful to see the dyeing of Laces mentioned as I know from past experiences that lace does not always come in the color or shade required. For someone who had never had much to do with lace every aspect of it is covered here I would recommend this book for the lace section alone!

However there is more to the book than that!

Construction! From the muslin Twal to the insertion of boning for support an integral part of many gowns.

The chapter devoted to bodice construction anyone would find rewarding again clever boning techniques mentioned along with illustrations of bodice styles and neckline finishes.

Sleeves are not left to chance as we are dealt an array of shapes , embellishments and internal support right down to the finishing closures. One of my ladies exclaimed she didn t realize there was so much to the sleeves!

Of course next is the Skirt , how to deal with it, attaching it to the bodice, underlining, over skirts, trains, layout and cutting, petticoats and on and on
All very well covered in easy to understand instructions.

As you work your way through this book you realize that Susan is leading you very cleverly through the construction and finishing of 3 of her very beautiful wedding gowns incorporating a lot of the techniques she explains throughout the book. This at least lets you see what in achieved with the finished garment.(A nice touch)

The valuable thing about this book is that the techniques learned can be applied to sewing evening garments as well, making it a little more versatile.

I enjoyed this book .It is simply set out and I even learnt a few things in the Lace sections. The illustrations were easy to follow and lots of photos of either techniques involved in sewing the gowns or the finshed garment.VERY NICELY DONE.

HOWEVER!

I think this book is more suitable to the sewer with a bit more experience than the beginner
