Pros:
Easy to read, practical information, great book for the beginner.
Cons:
Not as comprehensive as it could be.
Socrates once said that "there is only one good - knowledge, and one evil - ignorance." True words to live by even now. There is power in knowing what one can do to live a healthier life and failure to do is at one's own peril.
So many people don't even have the slightest idea of what to do when they are ill. Most just go to the doctor, seeking some magic pill that will make the "problem" go away. What we fail to recognize is that we have the power and the control to make ourselves well. The body and mind, along with nature, offers the body a wealth of good health.
The Prescription for Nutritional Healing is an excellent book for even the novice to begin taking back control of good health. The book contains an easy to read, step by step guide of basic and natural health remedies from Abscesses to Yeast Infections.
The book is very simple to use. Prescription for Healing has two-hundred-seventy five different health related disorders, all listed alphabetically within its six hundred pages.
When looking through this book, the typical health disorder contains the following information:
First is a detailed description of the disorder, along with common associated symptoms. Second, a list of nutrients that are considered very important, important, and helpful for person's suffering from this health problem. The list of nutrients includes vitamins, minerals, and common herbs used in treating the health problem.
Third, is a section on recommendations, which includes helpful information on foods to avoid, or foods that should be consumed, and whether a health care practitioner should be consulted for the disorder. Lastly, there is a section on considerations, which provides useful information on research in this area, behavioral modification techniques and supplemental information that may prove beneficial to the reader.
The book also contains a section on Nutrition, Diet and Wellness which discusses the basics every person should know about diet, nutrition, vitamins, minerals, herbs, and most importantly water (preferably distilled).
A final section of the book is entitled Remedies and Therapies. This section discusses common natural remedies such as how to make a poultice, taking a sitz bath, or the use of steam inhalation.
The information available to readers is concise, clear, and easy to understand. Information on research of different therapies offers the reader the opportunity to decide whether or not a specific treatment is right for him or her.
The authors are James F. Balch who is a grades of Indiana University's School of Medicine. He completed a surgical residency and specializes in urology. He is a member of the American Medical Association and is board certified with the American Board of Urology and is a fellow with the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Balch has a philosophy wherein he encourages his patients to take responsibility for their own health. This philosophy is supported in his own newspaper column and radio talk show.
Phyllis Balch is a certified nutritional consultant who received her certification from the American Association of Nutritional Consultants. She has an interest in the use of natural foods as remedies for illness and owns a health food store.
I highly recommend The Prescription of Nutritional Healing for anyone who is interest in natural healing and self-help remedies. This is one book that exceeds its worth of $19.95. Enjoy and Good Health!
