Though not as in depth ast the 1995 A and E mini series, I find this movie very appealing beautiful to view Very upeat and captivating. Kierra Knightly is the Lizzie I picture when I have read the book, and the rest of the actors are superbly cast. the only thing i could have wished for its that they made the movie longer to fit more of the story in, But despite that I still give it 5 stars because of it's vibrancy and feeling. i recomend this film highly
The book by Jane Austen has been made into a movie several times. But with the wonderful color that we have now, this one has the advantage. And it does not disappoint! Keira Knightley plays the second oldest of the 4 daughters of Donald Sutherland and the most independent. Her older sister, Jane, is beautiful but shy and is in love with a rich neighbor who is also shy. Because of their insecurities their relationship gets all screwed up by the neighbor's male friend, Mr. Darcy. This male friend falls in love with Keira Knightley's character and spends the rest of the movie trying to undo what damage he has caused. There are other plots too, including the romance of the 3rd daughter, and a mother played by Brenda Blethlyn (My Left Foot), who is only interested in marrying her daughters off well. And don't forget Judi Dench, who plays a super-rich neighbor who wants one of the men for her super-HOMELY daughter--I mean HOMELY!
The music, cinematography, characters, and a classic plot are TERRIFIC!! This is a real daybrightener; it will lift your spirits tremendously!
Very English. A little slow-paciced for the typical American. Once you adjust to the pace, you get into the characters and get lost in the relationship build up. A definite choice if you want to get in the mood.
I love this movie it is well acted and has beautiful scenery. It is a wonderful remake and I wanted to buy it as my daughters and I love to watch it over and over.
I never received my order in the mail and it is being reviewed by Ebay. No word on what the outcome will be. Just writing this to fill the 100 Characters minimum.
This is one of my daughter's favorite movies, so we purchased this for her for Christmas. She was elated and the DVD was in perfect condition. We couldn't be more pleased with our purchase. Thanks!
the dvd was in very good conddition with little to none scratches. The shipping and delivery speed was also extremely fast- I received the dvd in merely a few days. The dvd runs very well, without any skipping or noticeable errors.
I got the DVD pretty fast and in good condition. Thank you very much. Transaction went smoothly. It's a little annoying to me that I have to write a long review. I've submitted it several times but still did not go through. Hmmmm............
I am a Jane Austen fan, and have already seen this story portrayed a couple of other times. Because this is a roughly two hour movie, some of the characters have been condensed, as well as some situations combined. It is not as true to the book as some other versions have been, but it is still worth seeing. I enjoyed the portrayal of Mr Darcy, as more shy than haughty, and the magnetism between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy is very palpable. The musical score is fantastic, as is the cinematography. It has become a favorite movie of mine. I am now torn between Colin Firth and Matthew MacFayden as Mr Darcy. They are both very well played, but different. I recommend it highly. (Or in the words of Jane Austen -"It is very agreeable!)
Keira Knightley delivers a spectacular performance in this rendition of the classic novel by Jane Austen. The visualizations are also superb, and the music charming. The DVD is sure to make a wonderful addition to any library.
Excellent movie but the direction/screenwriter took a little more liberty with this movie than the book, although I love it. The scene at the end is just magical and I long for that scene in the A&E adaptation. I would consider this a much more contemporary look at the book.
I had purchased this movie from another ebayer and never received it. It was for a birthday gift. I promised I would replace it as soon as I could. I found a used copy from bearpark92's personal collection. It is like brand new!! I could not be more pleased. The shipping was incredibly fast and very well packaged. I bought it used because I was in a hurry and I didn't want to trust another power seller like I did the first time. The dvd was exactly as advertised, including the fact that it was widescreen. Given a 1 to 10 rating of the product = 10+! KhristieM
Wonderful classic romance based on one of author Jane Austen's best-loved novels! I love this movie! Has the directors commentary with the whole movie repeated + you learn a lot about the actors, places, and interesting facts on how the movie was made. Highly recommended.
The best adaptation is the BBC mini series with Colin Firth and I was not expecting much from this movie. I had heard how great it was etc but I still had my doubts.
The film is beautifully shot, the script brought out the best in the novel and the main characters were excellent. But the direction felt a little forced, trying too hard to make it beautiful and soft. Everything was a panoramic view or a very thought out shot. While that shows how much thought went into the film it also made me think how much thought went into it! It should not be noticed, it should flow without taking away from the story and performances - very strong stories and performances do not need to compete with the scenery.
Still, I thought it was a great more modern version and will probably get younger audiences to take an interest in Jane Austen. Everyone should read Austen, especially young women!
Very nicely done cinematography, great costumes, period decor, etc. What I liked best was the dialogue between Lizzie and Mr. Darcy, very good except for one thing..they talk very quiet, almost a whisper and very hurriedly. I found an older version of PBS one night long ago and the dialogue was much wittier because you could understand it better. Keira tended to hurry the funny lines too much and a lot of times you were asking "What did she say?" of each other. Granted we were watching it at night with the kids tucked in bed, but still, the soundtrack seemed muted and cluttered with background noise. My 16 and 14yr old daughters enjoyed it alot though they also had trouble hearing clearly what was going on. Bottom line? Well worth it to buy and watch over and over!
This is one amazing movie! It has great costumes and props. It is very much like the book. I definatly advise buying this wonderful movie. Pride and Prejudice is the BEST!
Loved it! gorgeous Love Story! Truly a heart warmer! A+++++++++++++ Great Movie from A to Z. You must listen carefully with the accent and all but perfect & sweet! I watched many times one to play over & over!Enjoy!
I loved the book and loved the movie just as much! Pride and Prejudice is a classic and I feel the integrity was kept in its reproduction. The set and costume design are amazing and appropriate for the time period, not to mention beautiful. Keira Knightly plays a stunning Lizzie, acts gracefully and true to the character. The movie stirs up hope and desire, just as the book does page by page. The end of the movie leaves you wishing for more of the old-fashioned scenery and situations... wishing for love. This is the perfect movie for the ladies... cuddle up in a warm blanket and watch this on a rainy day!
I love this story! Bought it for my collection. This newer, shorter version of the classic still has its own charm in telling the story of the Bennett family. The actors each bring their own uniqueness to the characters, and in turn add a slightly different view on the lives they portray. Though this story's scenes are not as in depth as the much longer mini-series, it is still an enjoyable tale of young romance. One of my favorite moments is the early morning mist scene of Lizzie (Keira Knightley) taking a walk and Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFayden) finding her, near the ending.
I absolutely loved this movie. A great love story, old fashioned romance, true-love and tastefully sexy. A classic story of two people who think they wouldn't like each other at all. Their lives become intermingled and Elizabeth finds that she is captivated by the one person she thought she would loathe for all time. So snuggle in with the one you love and watch this endearing love story....You won't be sorry !!
This is one of the best movies i've seen in a long time! I love Jane's writings. I like the movies from the books because it brings it to life. I will be buying this movie soon.
A glossy, peppy, but blithely compromised version of the Jane Austen classic, for the viewer who feels entirely comfortable with heavy dramatic, visual, and musical cues to bolster understanding and response. Director Joe Wright has said that this in not necessarily Jane Austen's vision but his own. Fair enough. But there's an unmistakeable sense that the star turns, the added soft-focus conclusion, the modernized dialogue, and especially the attention-deficit cinematography are choices that relate more to getting the project done and into the money than anyone's vision. It's not bad, just facile and predictable in the way that "quality cinema" has become in an age of low expectations. Its strongest suit may be that it will lead the non-reader to Austen's books, no small virtue. But it's not close in impact to the longer, five-hour mini-series jointly produced by A & E and the BBC which preserves Austen's witty dialogue and features powerhouse performances from all quarters.
