Synopsis
Saturday Night Live writer Max Brooks (son of Mel) writes a hilarious guide to surviving after the dead have risen from the earth. Writing with the ultimate deadpan seriousness, Brooks describes the tools you will need to protect your family and friends from the undead. Surprisingly, Brooks followed this humorous guidebook with the bestselling genre novel WORLD WAR Z: AN ORAL HISTORY OF THE ZOMBIE WAR, which recounted through "eyewitness" accounts the spread of a massive plague of zombies.

      Necessary Handbook for Zombie Survival!
    Review created: 05/02/06
9 of 10 people found this review helpful.

Max Brooks, kin to legendary film director/actor Mel Brooks, has found a glaringly obvious niche to be filled in the Zombie Undead world of fiction - how to survive in it! This is a must have for any Zombie fan! The drawings are pretty crude, but this is not a mass produced high dollar novel. It's more or less a handbook.

There are techniques on defense tactics as well as weaponry (a machete is best - it's quiet, saves ammunition and completely disables the attacker); Failure and Plan B situations; stealth movements - balance and posture; food and rations; escape vehicles (a bicycle is recommended - it's quiet and has better manueverability); and many, many more creative ways to stay alive.

The book does seem to extend the farcical fictional joke of Zombie Survival, like a person who tells a joke and then continues to add on to that joke extending it out ad-nauseam. But, when the dead rise to consume the flesh of the living...this would be a good book to hold onto.
