A MUST HAVE DVD FOR ANIME LOVERS EVERYWHERE.

I bought this after seeing various trailers for it from my Dragonball Z DVDs. It looked quite interesting. I waited until they re-released it in this more economical form, (i.e. having 14 epsiodes in one set as opposed to 3-4 episode volumes). From the word go I was intrigued by the whole thing. A very interesting anime thus far. I must get the next volume 'Second Wind' to find out the cliffhanger from the end of episode 14 on this set!

The anime has some fairly funny moments in and some great action scenes. Plus there are different relationships between the main characters that evolve quickly and keep the viewer interested. I will certainly be buying the rest of this series in time.

First Battles contains the first 14 episodes of the popular anime series Yu Yu Hakusho. The series aired on cartoon network every weekday during the "toonami" block until it was later moved to early mornings. The series revolved around the life of Yusuke Urameshi, a street punk who is feared by most around him, and the relationships he develops as spirit detective of earth.

The first 6 episodes are a little slow, but crucial to watch in order to understand the relationships between Yusuke, Kaiko, and Kuwabara. The latter two characters are closest to Yusuke and in order to truly enjoy the story, one must understand how these relationships evolve. However, this is by no means the only complex relationships throughout the series. In addition, we begin to learn that some humans possess "spirit energy" which can be used as a weapon against the demon world. This of course, is later developed in the show.

For those of you out there that love only action in anime, don't be turned off just yet. Even though the series starts off slow, there is plenty of action. Episodes 8-14 are a huge jump from the first few episodes with the introduction of the first of many tournaments in the series. In an action sense, this really begins to move the anime forwards.

In terms of price, this DVD is the cheapest of the 5 currently available and is a great bargain for 14 episodes. One can find the DVD for around $9.

In conclusion, the first 14 episodes are a nice start to a great series and I encourage all anime fans who have not seen Yu Yu Hakusho to start with this DVD.
I promise that after the first 14 episodes you will be craving for more Yu Yu Hakusho.

Yusuke Yusuke Yusuke! ;P I love Yu Yu Hakusho! The characters are awesome and kick butt! This anime is one of the best out there. I frst watched this on Toonamie a few years back and couldn't stop. This a great anime for everyone.

i love it, i love the DVD, i love the show, AND SINCE THEY NOW COLLECTED THE EPISODES INTO SMALLER AMOUNT OF DVDS, ITS EVEN BETTER

I also bought the Second Wind, episodes 15-28, and both of these DVDs together cost me 40, and if i would have bought the Spirit Detective saga through volumes, it would have cost about a 100, its great everyone should buy it.

I also just bought the Thrid Strike, episodes 29-42

How could anyone not love this anime?! One of the best purchases I have ever made. This two disk DVD set comes with the first 14 episodes (about 22 minutes each) of this brilliant anime. The only draw back... It leaves you with a major cliff hanger. But that just gives one more reason to buy the second set, Second Wind. The highest of recomendations.

Yu Yu Hakusho first battles: I love yu yu hakusho! I've been searching for episodes of yu yu hakusho for years. I am so glad that I found the first 14 episodes for such an unbelivable price!

I love this anime, its one of the older nicer ones. I started watching this when i was 15, now 19. I never finished the series and I recently found out it ended so I started this collection. Great dvd, graphics options and everything perfect buy.

This was a gift for my daughter. She said it was perfect and exactly what she wanted. She has continously watched it since she got it. Thank you.

This DVD was excellent. The quality of the video and audio was perfect. There were no flaws: The video looked great and the episode quantity was great, 14 full episodes rather than those 4 episode DVD rip-offs for the same price as this one. Excellent item! ^_^
