Album notes
The unnavoidable spiritually-damaged roar is audible immediately. Before even a single lyric of YOUTHANASIA's lead track "Reckoning Day" is uttered, the fierce twin guitar attack and the pounding double-bass drums betray the band's poetic motives. By the time singer/lyricist Dave Mustaine admits that "Life's fabric is corrupt/Shot through with corroded thread" on YOUTHANASIA's second track--and first single--"Train Of Consequences," Megadeth's plan of action is more than obvious. Disillusionment is at the core of life, Mustaine warns today's youth, recognize it early on before it grinds you down.
While such themes are an every day part of the speed-metal genre, YOUTHANASIA tackles the subject of maturing in the face of adversity with the skill of knowing professionals. Fitted into the album's sleek and streamlined production are arguments that straddle the border between complexity and naivete, but whose overall thesis is just as important to its alienated audience as gangsta rap is to its own. And while the grandeur of tracks like "A Tout Le Monde" or "Elysian Fields" can be off-putting, they ultimately become life-affirming gestures for those who actually listen.

good album over all, no weak songs, not as great as their earliest stuff, but an album to be reckoned with for almost 20 years at the time.

  In your face Album!
Review created: 06/09/08

Mustaine delivers again with a punch in your face. Immediately with the opening riff of the album, listener can feel a presence of powerful and moving vibe. "Reckoning Day" is uttered, the fierce twin guitar attack and the pounding double-bass drums betray the band's poetic motives. The album has great balance in delivering the right tune at the right time. Though with some filler songs, this album is greatly produced and collaborated with great musicians.

as far as metal cd's go,this is as good as any one out there.the dual guitar tandom of dave mustain, and marty friedman, deliver heavy, aggressive, guitar chops throughout this set.there are twelve selections on here, and the onslaught doesn't stop for a second on this recording.if your a fan of great power metal, then go out and grab this one.

One of the best CD's of the 1990's!!!
Review created: 06/04/07

Great CD, Dave Mustaine really hit it out of the park with this CD, from the opening song to the last lick. This was one of the best Metal Cd's from a very weak 1990's. Go buy this one and then go into the back catalog with So Far, So Good, So What.... and keep going backwards. Enjoy and Cheers!
