You're Broke Because You Want to Be by Larry Winget (2007, Hardcover)

This book is so good! I couldn't put it down once I started to read it. Larry's in-your-face kind of talk makes you feel like he is sitting right there at the table having a conversation with you. He does not hesitate to call you out on your excuses - and he has made me realize so much. I really liked that the book is also a workbook and he makes you write down things that really open you up to see the real situation and what you need to do about it. I also like that he is brutally honest in that it doesn't affect his life one way or the other if you listen to what he has to say. He's giving you the tools to change your situation, but making it perfectly clear that it is up to you to actually make the changes. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their financial situation and is willing to accept the fact that it takes work to change it and no one else is to blame for the situation.

Larry Winget is the best, Straight shooter,gives you a different perspective, not clouded with BS. Solutions make so much sense,and simple to implement. Fast read because it grabs you.

This book is no different from Larry's other books. He tells it like he sees it without pulling any punches. Larry is an in your face, Dutch uncle that tells you what you know to be the truth but don't want to hear.

There are no real secrets to getting out of debt and getting ahead. Getting even financially requires you to spend less and earn more. It is as simple as that.

If you truly want a guide to achieve a financially sound life, this book is a great start. But do not look for an easy way out or some magic bullet. Larry is a very straight shooter and does not sugar coat any of the medicine. The book gives very straight-forward steps to get control of your finances, get out of debt and get ahead.

The book is well written and easy to read. He gives some very good exercises for the reader to do that will certainly get you on the road to financial freedom. However as he makes it clear very many times, it will not be easy. It probably took you a long time to get where you are and you will not get out of debt overnight. It takes work and discipline.

If you truly want a no-nonsense guide to getting your financial life straight, this would be a good book for you to read.

Larry finishes the book by giving five examples of his friends who all started with little or nothing and made it big. There are some common threads among their stories. It is a path anyone can follow if they put everything they have into getting ahead. It is simple but not easy.

Even if you don't have financial problems, it makes a good read and you probably can think of someone to give it to.

This book is truly a wake-up call! I love the way Larry writes! He gets right to the point and tells it like it is. There is absolutely no nonsense about his style. Read this book and fix your money problems once and for all. Larry's writing style reminds me of a Zen Master; a slap across the face to help you understand! After all; every choice you make is your choice. Own it and use it to your advantage. Read this book, then think about it. You'll definitely open your eyes and get out of automatic pilot. I recommend this book to everyone who struggles with their spending and saving issues.

This book's title just caught my eye! I wasn't really searching it out, but happened upon it on accident. From the moment I got it, I opened and started reading what Larry Winget could possibly say to make me believe that I actually enjoy being broke!! He offers a LOT of very good ideas on how to save money, and how to track your money! With "worksheets" provided in his book, he takes you through step by step to show you where it all goes! This is not some "get rich quick scheme"!! This book actually shows us working class people how to buckle down, spend wisely and save better!! I have already told everyone I've talked to since last night about this book! I will probably buy a few copies to give as gifts!!

Very real life with the situations he describes. Pretty straight forward and to the point about views and ideas. Has alot of good ideas to think about your financial situations.

Tough but I needed it. Great, fast read. I will buy mor copies just to give out to my friends. Thanks Larry you just made it to the short list of people I would like to have lunch with. Tim Foster, Arkansas.

Very quick read. I read it in a day. This book kicks your butt into gear. He doesn't tell you anything new or particularly novel. But he did get me to recognize how stupid I've been with money!

I bought this book for my sister in law who is broke, bankrupt and it is all everyone elses fault.

Wow the book says all the things I used to tell her.

I hope she gets something out of it.

It's a hard nosed down to earth explanation of why we are broke and how to get out of it. It is not a idealistic budget plan or a how to invest assuming you already have money. My husband is the spender at our house and ran up credit cards. It's been almost a month since he read this and has looked at things differently since, not spending anything we don't really need.
It is also entertaining and can be offensive at times, due to tough language. But that's what it takes to get some people to think. I highly recomend this book to anyone who is in a financial hole and can't seem to get out.
