How to Be Your Own Veterinarian (Sometimes) by Ruth B. James (1985, Paperback)

I read the entire reference book like a novel. It's filled with good information, and is easy to read. The author often tells first-hand accounts of horses she has encountered through the years in her vet practice. I learned a lot and will continue to use this book for a reference. I recommend this book to anyone who owns a horse because we horse owners know that things can happen, and knowledge is the key to preventing, treating, and understanding equine care.

This book is a little bit dated on some topics, but overall, very practical and informative. I've bought several to give to friends for their tackrooms.

This is an excellent book- a must have for anyone who owns or works with horses. It contains a wealth of knowledge and is written in a way that makes it of benefit for both the novice and the old pro alike. I have been riding, training, buying, selling, and breeding horses for over 20 years now, and this is the best book on horses I have found yet.
