Second Time Around Not As Good As First

If you relished Josh Turner’s debut endeavor, and are expecting an improvement this time around, most likely you will be disappointed. There is no question that this country performer truly has a terrific baritone voice, often sounding similar to the likes of Don Williams, John Anderson, or Randy Travis, but with the exception of ‘White Noise’ (absolutely stellar performance co-written and co-sung with John Anderson), Josh’s other four solo writings, ‘Angels Fall Sometimes’, ‘Me and God’, ‘Gravity’, and ‘Way Down South’ are, at best, C rated fillers and not as good as the songs he composed on his intro CD. The four cuts that were co-authored by Shawn Camp with other individuals, ‘Would You Go with Me’, Baby’s Gone Home To Mama’, No Rush’, and ‘Loretta Lynn’s Lincoln’ are fairly good quality selections, but of those four, only the up tempo ‘Would You Go with Me’ is in the 5 star category. In a nutshell, if you are content purchasing a CD for three terrific selections: “Your Man’, ‘White Noise’ and ‘Would You Go With Me’, or are just absolutely enamored with Josh Turner, then go for this, otherwise save your money.
