Unlike other big rock albums, YOUR BODY ABOVE ME rewards repeated listens by revealing layers of intelligent subtlety. Along with the Radiohead hooks you would expect, there is an underlying melancholy that has as much to do with Mark Eitzel's world-weariness as with Big Star's power pop whimsy. The band's founder and songwriter, Paul Durham, is uncompromisingly introspective. A major in philosophy at Oberlin College, a radical and outre Ohio institution, Durham studied the master of Weltschmerz himself--Nietzsche. On the faster songs like "Can't Keep The Rain," it's clear that he also picked up Nietzsche's predilection for unrestrained creative abandon.
