Since I am a senior citizen, I thought this was a great movie, and a great accomplishment for these senior citizens. Guess you are really never too old!

Young@Heart is about a singing group comprised of elderly people who are led in modern, rock songs. But it is also about dignity, life, fire, friendship, longing, death, fragility and hope. The average age of the Young@Heart group is 75. They come together to celebrate life and wisdom through music. We are led through rehearsals that are often comic and performances that are often nostalgic, surprising and lively. Rock on, grandma! But more than the surprise of elderly people singing rock'n'roll, there is affirmation. These elderly people refuse, absolutely refuse, to spend their golden years in silence and brooding. They are out for the community that music brings, and the spirit that singing difficult, modern (rock) songs infuses.

I saw this film at a movie theater and was convinced it was perfect for our God-Sent Grandparents(GSG). The GSG is a support group for impoverished grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. When this DVD became available at a reasonable bid, well, jump at the chance! It's going to be great watching them watch this documentary! The GSG are mostly elderly, courageous for taking on the responsibility of raising their grandchildren, and stalwart in their values. It will be good to see them empathize and be affirmed. Thank you for offering this DVD at a low bid price that the GSG could afford. God bless... !

Young At Heart - an uplifting, memorable movie
Review created: 09/27/09

Young At Heart is a must-see film for anyone who loves music. This documentary focuses on a singing group's preparation for an upcoming tour, documenting the initial song choices, rehearsals, challenges, and triumphs. The unique characteristics of this particular bunch of singers are that the average age in the group is 80, and that the repertoire of songs consists of alternative and punk rock music, such as The Ramones, "I Wanna Be Sedated," and David Bowie's, "Golden Years."
At the beginning of the film you will definitely find amusement at the behavior of the singers and their situation - "Senior Citizens Do Sonic Youth." However, as you become engaged in their process, and ultimately become completely engrossed and emotionally touched by the individual courage, tenacity, talent, and determination of this amazing group of senior citizens, you will walk away from this film with nothing but admiration and respect for them. I haven't spoken with one person who didn't thoroughly enjoy this movie, who didn't feel transformed in some way by it's poignancy and jubilant portrayal of professionalism and commitment.
I ordered this DVD and had it shipped to a friend whose father recently passed away at an assisted facility. When she offered to return it to me after she watched it (and loved it, which I knew she would), I asked her to share it with someone else. Hopefully, the DVD will continue to be passed around and shared so that more people have the opportunity to view this life-altering movie. If you haven't had the chance to see it, don't hesitate to put "Young At Heart" in your Netflix queue, rent it, check it out from your local library - just watch it (and don't forget to have a box of tissues within reach; it's an emotional experience).

Young @ Heart will take away ones fear of getting old, so funny and heart warming. It's a high quality documentary about a man who gets a workshop of senior singers together, he picks the music and directs the singers & does a stellar job! It's a true delight.

  Young@Heart DVD

What a fantastic film!! I heard about it from friends who like to sing.

It's a brilliantly made documentary that brings many characters to life. Not sentimental or corny, but moving. Shows elderly people as individual people, with quirks and personalities.

Not about some old people badly singing some old-fashioned music. They do contemporary songs, which seem perfectly suited to them as performers. The director of the choir gears the songs to their abilities and lack thereof -- the result is joyful and deeply touching.

It's a great film because the Young@Heart project is such a fantastic idea. The film director does it complete justice.

Young@Heart is a documentary that will make you laugh and cry. It brings new meaning to rock song lyrics when you hear them sung in a whole new way. I loved the way this film shows that finding your passion keeps you young despite your years. This movie is a winner.

  Young @ Heart is WONDERFUL!
Review created: 12/31/08

I love the well-titled documentary "Young @ Heart" because it is a fun movie to watch. I laughed, I cried, and I laughed again. The movie deals with getting old and living life to the full in a fun, but appropriately sensitive manner. I saw the movie twice in theaters (I almost watched it a third time in a theater in Spain, but didn't have time), and fell in love with it. I knew as soon as I found it on DVD I would have to buy it, and I did. I love it!

  A real surprise package.
Review created: 12/11/08

So unexpected, humorous and touching. My movie theatre experiences, by choice, are 99% comedy but this documentary caught my attention immediately from the opening song. To begin with it was utter bewilderment then soon turned to enjoyable, attention-catching scenes. for movies viewed this year, 'Young@Heart' is only second to 'August Rush.'

What an uplifting film! More movies need to be like this one! For once, it was
great to see average human beings overcoming so many obstacles to achieve a
common goal. If you don't cry during the song 'Forever Young,' your heart is made of stone! All of us will have to face our elderly years in the future; I just hope I can do it with the compassion of the characters in the film.
Whenever I hear 'Forever Young' in the future, I will always remember this film and the its priceless message. Rent it..... Buy it...... It will make you 'forever young'!
