I think this is an excellent book! It has many of the "common sense" ideas that we all know...but tend to forget! What a great reminder tool to have in the house. Also I liked that the exercises listed are easily done without the aid of weights! Just use your own body...it really works. The receipe's are VERY TASTY too!

JUST YET ANOTHER DIET BOOK TO FUEL THE BILLION'S OF DOLLARS A YEAR INDUSTRY WE SPEND TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT. ONLY REASON IT'S NUMBER ONE IS OPRAH ENDORSED IT. AS SOMEONE WHO HAS GIVEN IN TO THE BUYING AND TRYING ALL THE LATEST "DIET TO END ALL DIET" CRAZES, I CAN SAY THAT. A LIGHT FINALLY WENT OFF IN MY BRAIN, LOOSING WEIGHT IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE HARDEST THINGS YOU WILL EVER DO. BUT THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN LOSE AND MAINTAIN, IS TO EAT FEWER CALORIES AND EXERCISE ON A REGULAR BASES. AND IT IS A LIFETIME CHANGE. EVERYBODY IS ON A DIET, EVEN IF YOU EAT FRIED CHICKEN AND BISCUITS EVERY MEAL. TO LOSE WEIGHT THE DIET NEEDS TO BE HEALTHY WITH PORTION CONTROL. THE BOOK MADE SOME GOOD POINTS, BUT NOTHING WE HAVE NOT ALREADY HEARD.
REACHED MY GOAL, FIGHTING EVERYDAY TO MAINTAIN-GOOD LUCK

I purchased this after hearing Dr. Oz on Oprah. I knew alot about physiology yet was hearing new things that interested me. The connection with fats and sugars on metabolism, is made very clear in the book and with lots of drawings and clear descriptions, analogies really imprints on the brain the need to clean up our diets. The benefits are a shrinking waistline, healthier liver, arteries, and intestines.
I have applied some of the suggestions, cleaning out the bad foods, right kinds of snacks, portion size and have noticed a change for the better. The 2 week diet in the book is reasonable...havent started it yet, may not need too if these other 1st suggestions are sufficient for me. The exercise routine is very good for those who cant get to a gym...not necessary. Have enjoyed doing it regularly.
Highly recommend this book, great motivator and based on accurate knowledge of the human body. Also very comforting to read if we get past the mental stuff that blocks path to eatting right our bodies actually have a "set point" and want to get there. We're not destined to be overweight. He discusses those issues and even offers suggestions to deal with those issues...very smart.
The evidence, in the lives of those that apply these suggestions are the proof that this is appropriate advice.

BUY it, READ it, LIVE it!!!

I bought this book back in March of this year after hearing about it on the radio. Right after my purchase I taped DR. Oz's PBS special. I read the book, watched the special, started changing things.

It's now late July, I've lost close to 40lbs. My waist has shrunk by at least 4 inches. My energy level hasn't been this good since I was a teenager. Even my eyesight has improved.

That's not to say it's been easy. The changes made to my eating habits was traumatic at the beginning. Walking a half hour everyday was really tough, at first. I pay WAY more attention to the food I eat than I ever have before and I haven't had a can of soda, neither regular or diet 4 months. The benefits, however, show up quickly and before long the new eating habits become automatic. I walk well over an hour almost everyday now.

I recently bought two more copies of this book for my brother and a good friend of mine. I hope they will have similar success. Just try the book's recommendations for three weeks and see what happens. Then you'll know what's good for you.

This book is so full of great information. I was only through the first 30 pages and sharing with anyone who would listen. Now whenever I eat anything I'm thinking about the ingredients and how it will affect my body.

  This Isn't A Diet-It's A Lifestyle Change !
Review created: 11/16/07

I went online to jumpstart the plan before I ordered the book two weeks ago.
I have between 80-100lbs to lose, depending on whose chart you're looking at.
I need to lose at least 10" off my waist.
I followed the two week plan from their website. I was totally surprised by the results. I lost 4" off my waistline and 17lbs!
I realize that my results will not be as dramatic as I follow the plan, but this was enough to get me motivated.
It helped me get off junk food for good, and the worst thing that keeps you fat are the diet colas.
I feel so much better. The chest pains I had, high cholestrol and high blood pressure are now all normal. No chest pains, and I can fall asleep easier at night.
This plan isn't for people who aren't serious about giving up junk food. You are allowed only two diet sodas a week. It eliminates, white flour, sugar, salt, etc. No catsup or mayo. But I've never been a big condiment fan anyway.
Right now I walk 30 minutes a day with my dog for exercise. I like to walk anyway.
I highly recommend this book for those who want to feel better, look better, and have a healthier life.
I have tried every diet and book out there. This is the first one that has worked.

I decided to buy this book because it deals with belly fat and I am in serious desire to trim the fat off my middle. Because it was a NYTimes best seller and highly publicized and EBay price discounted I chose You On A Diet. Great choice - highly readable, punctuated with humorous remarks and comic drawings to illustrate the anatomical scene, and to leave you with visual memory of what happens with your insides when your diet is wacko. I find myself remembering some little devil character with a pitchfork, pinching my intestines, and so I bypass the fried fritters and go for a baked potato, etc. Also covered is the exercise aspect which inspired me to start riding my real bike again, and already friends are noticing I look good--feel good--Thanks, You On A Diet, I commend and recommend you.

I must first warn you that every second or third sentence in this book is a joke or pun. While I personally find this book to be highly amusing and entertaining, others may find the dosage of humor to be excessive. The negative reviews here are essentially, I believe, a result of personality clash. Not everyone can appreciate humorous reading, let alone interwoven with profoundly intricate (and serious) information about how the body works. I find the mixing of the two elements an unusual presentation. I think it works...IF you have a good sense of humor. The illustrations mirror the spirit of the text. They are as detailed as they are amusing.

Missing out on reading this book would be unfortunate. I must reiterate that the insight this book offers on how the human body works (relative to weight) is to an extent of detail that I (and probably you) have never read anywhere else. You'll learn from a cellular chemical reaction level WHY you shouldn't eat that jelly doughnut. I greatly admire that psychological and even spiritual issues are gently presented, as well.

No boot camp mentality here. The authors are not above the use of pharmaceuticals or weight-loss surgery for someone to reach their goal. Even cosmetic surgery for after the weight is gone is discussed. They don't seem to hold any illusions.

Yes, I read the deodorant theory. I don't have an intimate companion, either. Don't sweat the things that don't necessarily apply to you. What does and will apply to you can be IMMENSELY useful! The plan is not difficult to implement. Even if you use an eating plan other than the one presented in the book, read the book anyway. There's some really good information on what affects a person's weight, and you can use that information to your benefit.

Truth and Wit Combine to Lose Weight and Love It!

This book, as with the others in the YOU series by Drs. Oz and Roizen, delivers truely sound advice on how the foods you eat affect your body's function as well as appearance. The authors deliver the information in a fun to read format (clever and witty) with amusing drawings throughout to keep it interesting. Applying the advice in this book can take years off of your appearance and help you live longer and enjoy a more vibrant life. I recommend this product to anyone interested in losing weight the right way. Once you learn how your body uses good and bad foods, you will naturally want to apply it to your life.

This book is Excellent at explaining our bodies. It covers everything from the psychology of eating to an excellent description of what causes & happens when you have high blood pressure, cholesterol, insulin levels, etc. Gives a typical "correct" diet, supplements that will aid in weight loss, a good exercise plan, and even touches on the various weight reduction surgeries, etc. Also lists "best option" choices for dining out. Book is written in an easy-to-understand, humourous format, which makes for easy and interesting reading. Wish there were more recipes included. The ones I tried have been very good.

Dr Oz is on the edge of what we as Americans need to be doing with our lives these days. He is amazing! Listen to what he says, and you will feel better, be healthier and stronger. The book is written for anybody to understand. He doesn't speak down to you in confusing medical terminology. He kindly speaks to you from his heart doing everything he can to help you learn and understand. I am so excited about Dr Oz and the fact that he has finally written this book! Buy it! Thank you, Oprah, for giving us Dr. Oz!

I decided to find this book after seeing one of the authors interviewed. I was captivated at how energetic he was about finding out everything about how the body works in relation to intake of food. His broad wealth of knowledge really impressed me. He is a cardiologist by trade, but really well-versed in how the body reacts to foods and lifestyle. It is more of a science-based book than a diet book, but humor is never more than a page away. I like to learn things that I can remember, rather than just having a set diet. This is one of many books that Dr. Oz has had a hand in and so far, everything that I have read or heard him say makes total common sense, which seems to be in short
supply these days.

I borrowed this book first from the library to see if I wanted to buy it. Absolutely did! It is very easy to understand, written direct, and with a great deal of humor so it was never dry to read. I want it as a reference manual. I had gastric bypass last year...and am thrilled with my results...however, I want to be able to totally change my eating patterns so I never end up that fat again. This book definately teaches you what to do and not to do...and why your body does what it does. Made me understand why I failed in the past. Definately recommend the book.

Funny, Serious, Informative - How to Diet and Why.
Review created: 02/02/07
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The authors have taken the latest medical evidence and presented it in the most comprehensive, informative, interesting, "diet" book I have ever read.

Sub-titled "The owner's manual for waist management", they explain why a smaller waistline girth rather than total body weight is key to good health.

This book has it all:

A light-hearted, but extremely comprehensive, presentation of how your body stores fat and processes the food you eat. Dozens of simple illustrations help destroy popular misconceptions.

Foods to eat and those to avoid - how to identify them - and why we should follow these guidelines.

Your emotions and the influence of others and outside forces on your ability to control your weight. And recommended strategies to deal with them.

For the diet purists, A 14-week, flexible, meal plan with shopping list, and a recipe section with many sample recipes.

Stressing the importance of physical activity, not just while dieting, but for overall health. The "YOU Diet" Activity Audit presents what you need to do, and how much.

An explanation of diet drugs, plastic surgery, and bariatric surgical procedures, how they work, and when they may be indicated.

A very different approach to weight loss. There are dozens of "YOU-reka Moments" when you come upon facts which challenge your preconceptions and explain diet facts. ("YOU-reka! If you can allow your body and brain to subconsciously do the work of controlling your eating, you'll naturally gravitate toward your ideal playing weight.")

Dozens of "Factoids", presenting condensed information, are highlighted throughout the text.

The book is full of "Myth Busters".

It is easy and fun to read. The authors have presented the most comprehensive and detailed information in a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek manner. Never removing the focus from the importance of waistline control, but always aware that we are human and may make some poor choices from time to time. They advocate a "YOU-turn" when you have strayed.

This is a fresh new approach to health management, and one you will enjoy exploring.

I highly recommend this book.

This is the kind of book that could do us all some good, whether you need to drop a few pounds or just get back into shape and start eating better. It's all the stuff we should have learned growing up, eating more fruits and veggies, less red meat and sugar/fat....but with new and updated info on the dangers of white sugar, hydrogenated oils (and what the heck that even is), refined flour (and whole wheat flour is not a whole grain, it's still ground up flour) and the list goes on. A real make you feel better if you follow it guide, loose weight with a real "diet' you could live with...because if you go off your diet number 275, you will gain back all your weight. So this is the lifestyle change 'diet' for me. Enjoy!

  Diet Plan Book

I purchased this book after watching Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen on the Oprah Winfrey show. With the new year soon approaching I decided to become educated on diets and healthy habits.

The book arrived quickly- although it did take me a few weeks to get started reading it.

I enjoy the way the book has been written- very funny- and very real life situations are presented.

The only thing about the book I didn't find appealing was the diet menus and exercise plans are in the back. You have to read a lot of information about digestion and other bodily functions before you get to twhat you should eat and what exercise you should do.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in changing their eating habits and is serious about changing their life.

I'VE FINALLY INTERNALIZED INFO I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT!!
Review created: 01/04/08
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I have owned and read cover to cover at least 35 diet books in my life, and this is the first one that has really made me "get it". At first, I thought "What is all this gibberish about the digestive system and hypothalami gland? - Boring!" Then because the way facts were presented interested me, I kept reading. Now I understand, really understand what triggers my hunger, and my satiety! I have lost 14 pounds without dieting and now feel enough energy to begin the exercises in the book. The information in this book is power, and I advise people like me, with uncontrollable appetites, to give it a chance. Give yourself a chance. You can feel better, even while you are losing weight, and I love all the food I eat now. I just have skipped eating lots of foods that were killing me and making me hungry. Do read with an open mind, and give it a chance!

I heard good reviews about your site. never ordered from half.com nor do I ever plan to again. Yes I have contacted the seller, numerous times without a reply. Extremely bad for your business.
