Movie Description Airing from 1953-1957, YOU ARE THERE was a television reworking of an earlier radio series that recreated noteworthy events in history. Hosted by prominent newscasters such as Walter Cronkite, Charles Collingwood, and Mike Wallace, the show had a team of excellent writers, many of whom, significantly, were blacklisted in Hollywood by the House of Un-American Activities Committee during the era of Mcarthyism. The show, directed by Sidney Lumet (SERPICO, DOG DAY AFTERNOON), was used to combat the anti-Communist witch hunt that was going on at the time, painting a noble picture of the human spirit prevailing against oppressive forces. Telling stories from history as though they were occurring contemporaneously, prominent figures were interviewed about the circumstances of events. This volume covers "The Capture Of John Wilkes Booth" and "Spindletop: The First Texas Oil Strike."
