Essential listening
This is my first Hendrix album and I'm very pleased with it. The muscial inventiveness of the songs and Hendrix & company's skills make this album very fun to listen to over and over. The vocal melodies aren't always that strong, and I would be curious to hear the Remastered version (mine is not the actual remaster) as it is a little raw in places; there are also a few places where I don't like how the instruments and vocals are panned. Rawness aside, though, this disc is really a must-have for anyone interested in the legacy of rock. Since it includes a bunch of hits like Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, Wind Cries Mary, Hey Joe, and Fire, I thought at first that it was a greatest hits album. The bonus tracks are great, especially my favorites, Highway Chile and Red House.
