Essential listening
) This is my first Hendrix album and I'm very pleased with it. The muscial inventiveness of the songs and Hendrix & company's skills make this album very fun to listen to over and over. The vocal melodies aren't always that strong, and I would be curious to hear the Remastered version (mine is not the actual remaster) as it is a little raw in places; there are also a few places where I don't like how the instruments and vocals are panned. Rawness aside, though, this disc is really a must-have for anyone interested in the legacy of rock. Since it includes a bunch of hits like Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, Wind Cries Mary, Hey Joe, and Fire, I thought at first that it was a greatest hits album. The bonus tracks are great, especially my favorites, Highway Chile and Red House.

Well, are you?Perhaps the strongest and most influential debut album of all time. Jimi Hendrix reinvented the guitar, and this is by far and away his strongest studio album. This edition combines the original UK issue of the album with the singles (Hey Joe, Purple Haze and The Wind Cries Mary)and B-sides which were issued alongside it . Given that when Jimi Hendrix made his live debut, such guitar notaries of the period as Eric Clapton and Brian Jones were left looking like slack-jawed yokels, any critical review of this album (which contains studio versions of many early live staples)is pretty much superfluous. Suffice to say that if you know where the jack plug connects on an electric guitar you should be ashamed of yourself for not already owning a copy of this album. So what are you waiting for? Go and get it.
