This 24-year-old is no dilettante. Although he has a day job as a basketball superstar, he's stayed busy with film roles and recording projects that show him to be a man of many talents. The diesel one's third album showcases not only his own prodigious talents but also those of a number of other prominent hip-hop artists. With Shaq's lyrical skills, and with musical production provided by hip-hop heavyweights like the Trackmasterz, Easy Mo Bee and Mobb Deep, YOU CAN'T STOP THE REIGN is a top-shelf rap album. The DJ Quik-produced "Strait Playin'" adds West Coast flavor to the album, but doesn't take away from Shaq's universal sound, which is typical of rappers who are influenced by both coasts.
Editorial Reviews ...Demonstrating a tremendous amount of thought and hard work, Shaq comes up to rap's courtside with a solid and fun album....It is great entertainment... Rap Pages (02/01/1997)
...this REIGN washes away the grit--too many R&B choruses and cameos make this more a compilation than a solo album. - Rating: B- Entertainment Weekly (12/13/1996)
