Yodel-Ay-Ee-Oooo by Bart Plantenga (2003, Hardcover)

When I became an avid yodeing fan in 2003, coicindentally, Bart Plantega had published this book that tells you all about yodeling. In fact it's the only book on yodeling that I've ever found and very is complete. Platenga is obviously passionate about his subject and covers all aspects of the art in great detail. From how we actually physically produce a yodel including charts of sound waves and more, Plantega goes on to discuss the origins and history, various cultures that practice yodeing in one form or another and identifies many yodelers from around the world.

Given the indepth approach that Plantenga takes on the subject, you will have to be a TRUE yodel lover (or at least an afictionado of various music genre) to read this book. The best feature of the book to my mind is the very comprehensive listings of yodelers and recordings. It's a treasure trove of information with resources galore. Plantenga's writing is also infused with a gentle humor throughout.
